Its development and proper achievement require to applying a semiotic methodology. The study of this phenomenon and the explanation of its pedagogical efficacy need analytical and critical operations to be derived from the possible development of a specific indexical semiotics, just as it can be taken (avoiding to be cloistered in a dogmatic derivation) from Ch. S. Peirce´s proposal concerning the indexical sign´s treatment (Ch. S. <dcterms:description>One of the concerns of this research is to understand the perspective held by the inhabitants of the city of Jujuy regarding what the “university of the street” means, as well as the different forms of learning acquired through it.
This paper presents some of the results of the analysis of interviews corresponding to a sample taken in Jujuy’s capital city, with the aim of establishing the existing semantic valuations.
The methodology used is based on operations drawn from semiotics and discourse analysis, aimed at identifying the “discursive formations” (Michel Foucault, 1969: 44–54) through which the community constructs meanings about phenomena circulating in a given time and society. Through textual analysis, this type of approach makes it possible to observe how a group of people constructs and evaluates a social phenomenon, in this case, the “university of the street”.
The corpus consists of interviews conducted with members of the Jujuy community. The selection criterion was based on variables such as age, sex, profession, or occupation, without establishing a rigid parameter or forcing the sample into a fixed classification. The objective of the interviews was to gather current opinions in order to analyze the different conceptions of this phenomenon. To this end, the following questions were used: What is the “university of the street” for you? What did you learn from the “university of the street”? Do you remember any concrete learning situation?
The results obtained from the analysis of the interviews show that the “university of the street” is conceived in different ways: as a space where lived experiences make it possible to acquire certain forms of knowledge that help people live or survive in that immense space of permanent interrelations; as a place for acquiring knowledge outside formal institutions, such as school or university; as a place of everyday learning, among others.
This paper corresponds to one segment of a research project whose central interest is the study of the “university of the street”, based in the Chair of Communication and Education of this School of Humanities and Social Sciences.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>This paper presents the research project “New Information and Communication Technologies in the School”, currently being developed at Teacher Training Institute No. 6 in Chivilcoy, Buenos Aires.
There is a certain consensus regarding the need for ICTs in the school setting, although it is recognized that the main obstacle lies in transforming that consensus into concrete practices. It is therefore necessary to denaturalize current educational discourses in order to understand what kinds of practices they enable or prevent, encourage or discredit.
We will analyze the current social meanings concerning subjects—students and teachers—ICTs, and knowledge in the school, following as a criterion the construction of a corpus representative of discursive plurality. The concept of “possible semiotic worlds” allows us to address the contrast between the representations of different social actors and to explain the interactions between youth interpretations and teachers’ interpretations.
We assume cognitive semiotics and discourse analysis as the methodological perspective from which to design our path of research. By recognizing the constructive power of social discourses, we affirm that different discursive formations (Foucault, 1970) construct different social objects and practices.
As a contribution to the research project “The University of the Street”, we propose to explore both institutionalized pedagogical behaviors and extra-institutional behaviors that emerge and develop in relation to the knowledge acquired through practices involving ICTs. We also seek to evaluate the possible contributions of ICTs to the improvement of educational practices and to the construction of both individual and collective learning strategies.</dcterms:description>
As.

<dcterms:description>Each of the spheres in which social classes of various kinds operate constitutes, to a greater or lesser extent, a community of practice.
When speaking of practice, we refer to culture, a joint enterprise, a shared repertoire, and mutual engagement among members who interact and negotiate within countless political relations, following Wenger (2001).
This research considers two types of “enterprises”: the institutional one, represented by dance academies, and the non-institutional one, represented by the nighttime salsa scene and private gatherings.
The setting chosen for this work is “the salsa community of practice of San Salvador de Jujuy”, a community that is in constant dialectic between these two types of “enterprises”, which are practiced in multiple geographic spaces.
The object of this analysis is the interpretation of all forms of non-formal learning that, in some way, determine access to the previously mentioned hermetic space: the salsa scene.
The methodology used will consist of discourse analysis and contextual definitions, which will be applied, at this stage, to observations and interviews.
With the advances made in the topic under study, it is possible to contrast two very different conceptions regarding the central concept: the community of practice proposed by Etienne Wenger (2001). While for some of its members there is a community based on social interactions, for others it is a geographic space of prestige—“Amor Puro” resto-pub—that makes them truly active participants.
Being part of this “institution” not only raises the problem of immersion in the field under study, but also reveals that it is not clearly defined what that field is, although at this stage there seems to be a social space that may be represented by the resto-pub.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>The aim of this paper is to analyze the links established between the field of Social Communication and the project “University of the Street” as an innovative contribution to academic research in the field of media communication.
The possibility of identifying non-formal learning situations in journalistic activity allows us to shed light on dimensions of analysis that have been little explored by theories of communication and culture. These are “experience-generating behaviors” (J. Magariños, 2006) which, because of their effectiveness in professional practice, condense forms of learning that may be taken up again and updated by subjects in other contexts or situations.
These “acquired experiential forms of knowledge” are generally denied or only scarcely addressed by communication studies. In this sense, the identification and construction of the scenario “Journalists by Trade” posed the challenge of systematizing these non-academic forms of knowledge from a basic methodology.
The identification and description of teachings accumulated by a large number of journalists who have not had access to university education made it possible, initially, to notice the intersections and tensions with the knowledge produced by academia and with which the latter seeks to differentiate itself in its search for labor-market insertion for its graduates.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>Within the framework of the research project entitled The University of the Street, and from the perspective of action research proposed by socio-discursive interactionism as a theoretical-methodological framework, together with Foucauldian discourse analysis (2002), our research focuses on the relationship between teachers’ training and practice and on the study of their institutional adaptation. This adaptation involves the acquisition of non-formal learning linked to UdelaC; that is, learning that institutions do not provide: learning related to interaction with students, colleagues, administrators, and other members of the educational community of practice (Wenger, 2001), as well as with other institutional and ministerial spheres of education.
The methodology consists in comparing the prescribed written texts of the profession with the oral texts of practice during and after teaching work. The approach that brings together the didactics of school disciplines and ergonomics, or work analysis, guides the specific analyses of activity: first, real work; then, prescribed work; and, finally, the interpretation offered by the actors themselves.
On the other hand, discourse analysis of the different records obtained—interviews, anecdotes, and reports—makes it possible to obtain contrasting networks that contribute to comparative work. From the comparison of the research findings, we understand that a non-formal learning process effectively takes place and is fundamental to the construction of the teaching role.
The team is composed of two research groups—one from the National University of Jujuy and the other from the National University of Comahue—together with a teacher training institute, IFDC Bariloche, located in distant regions of our country.</dcterms:description>
<dcterms:description>The problem to which we seek to find an answer, as an interdisciplinary research team, concerns the spatial difficulties and mental representations that blind people face in order to develop their lives with dignity.
The methodological approach is centered on heuristics; that is, on the knowledge, maturation, and projection of the individual’s strengths, in search of their genuine expression as a member of society.
The effort that blind children must make in the learning process involves developing the capacity for movement, spatial orientation, and the recognition of objects.
As a method, we approach the knowledge of space from the body, while also seeking to help blind children and adolescents achieve a mental representation of it. This learning process is facilitated through scale representations, such as models and dolls. The work involves exploring what is nearby and accessible to touch, but also, by means of a ladder, seeking to reach what is often inaccessible: the ceiling.
Our objective is to work toward a spatial education in which blind children and adolescents construct their own cognitive tools in order to orient themselves in the different spaces in which their lives unfold. In this way, we seek to help them compose a global image of the relationship between their body in space, objects, and other people. For them, cognitive contents imply an expansion of their intellectual possibilities and of their understanding of the environment.
We conclude that our work provides blind people with new possibilities for becoming active members of society. For us, as sighted people, it also means learning to communicate from and through difference.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>The purpose of this paper is to account for the discourses around which the category of art was constructed, and to characterize, from different approaches, the current state of the question regarding this topic.
It also seeks to find clues that may account for certain concepts produced by European cultural imposition, and to objectify the lack of theoretical updating in the field of art. This lack is evident in the absence of critical approaches capable of revising the discriminatory use of hundreds of terms coined by the Enlightenment, which to this day have not been resignified in light of epistemological ruptures produced by different theoretical, anthropological, sociological, linguistic, semiotic, and aesthetic approaches, among others, within a Latin American context.
The paper also aims to make evident the absence of artistic education from an early age, which legitimizes these signs of distinction by granting only “some” people access to “read” artistic codes; that is, to decode “Art”.
It is the codes of Popular Art that circulate in the street. For this reason, I approach the concept of Folklore as a non-institutional social discourse from a semiotic framework, in order to account for the visibility-invisibility of certain popular artistic practices that are not considered “Art” and that have a particular aesthetic production, neither lesser nor greater than any other.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>This paper aims to provide an outline of the Possible Semiotic Worlds of the Tupac Amaru Neighborhood Association among external actors. This will make it possible to establish a context of meaning and interpretation of the organization, which may later be contrasted and complemented with the presence of certain forms of the “University of the Street” found in the selected organization, thus advancing in the development of this scenario.
Interviews were conducted with people who are not directly part of the organization—external actors—men and women aged 18 and over.
The responses were analyzed from the perspective of symbolic semiotics, applying the following semiotic operations: normalization, segmentation, the formation of contextual definitions, the development of axes, and the formation of contrasting networks. It is considered that, through social discourses, a given community represents and interprets the phenomena of its environment. Discourse is understood as any event that constructs that of which it speaks: it is a limited set of statements that depends on the same discursive formation and appears under a set of conditions of existence (Foucault, 1970).
The aim of this research is to obtain information about how the organization is perceived by people in general. This first stage is the one presented in this paper.
The results obtained will later serve to inquire within the organization into its objectives and into what its members think. The contrast between external and internal Possible Semiotic Worlds will make it possible to obtain relevant data for the research on how Jujuy society interprets the organization under study, and how the organization interprets itself.
The research carried out in the organization so far has made it possible to identify internal teaching-learning aspects, such as the existence of a career path within the Construction Cooperatives, where learning takes place mainly through imitation (Conte and Paolucci, 2001), and the transmission of values linked to education, social reintegration, and work.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>The University of the Street (UDELAC) was surely part of the thought of a period and of a large part of Argentine society, synthesized in the expression “m’hijo el dotor” (“my son, the doctor”). This expression guided the ideals of a broad sector of Argentine society during a period that may tentatively be located between the last two decades of the nineteenth century and the first seven decades of the twentieth century, and it was a fundamental ideological ingredient in the generation of a model of the country.
In its early stages, this mainly involved, especially in the so-called “Pampa Gringa”, the first or second generation of European immigrants, who saw in the public and free university the instrument through which their children would not have to suffer the poverty they themselves had endured. The most attractive option observable in the social landscape of economically successful people at the time was represented by the “doctors”, especially lawyers and physicians. The possibility emerged that, without the support of a family fortune, one could rise socially and achieve the long-desired economic well-being.
This sense, within UDELAC, of the need for social advancement through university studies in the liberal professions persisted—and still persists—longer in rural areas and in the poorest areas of the country, with more asymmetrical social structures, characterized by a greater proportion of population of Creole origin.
Little by little, the mechanisms and strategies of the University of the Street, which had originally been defined and understood as an unquestionable counterposition to the formal university institution, began to take over many aspects that belong to the essence of the university system.
This text is written by appealing to certain resources of both systems of thought and action, with the purpose of addressing the aim of achieving an adequate integration that remains faithful to the forms of the university in the present.</dcterms:description>
<dcterms:description>From classical tragedy, which brings Antigone’s word as she seeks to bury Polynices, or Odysseus’s descent into Hades, to the medieval dances of death, with terrifying figures that show death’s harassment of human beings; from the journey proposed by Dante in the Divine Comedy to the metaphor of life as a river that resonates in Manrique’s Coplas; from representations of the transience of time in Renaissance and Baroque poetry to “the tomb that awaits with its funereal branches” in Darío’s poem; from absences and fragmentations, ellipses and ruptures of form, the abyss that follows the verse, or the blank space of the page that encloses the poem, death has always been alive in literary discourse.
The purpose of this paper is to delve into Marcelo Ahumada’s poem “Madrenaturaleza” (Catamarca, 1971), exploring its images of the end, associated with sleep, drugs, heartbreak, and meaninglessness, and connected with ancestral representations that are both recovered and lost in the present of a bewildered speaker.
Within the framework of the research project “Critical Analysis of the Notion of ‘End of the Millennium’ Implied in the Discourses of Art”, the aim of this paper is to correlate the notion of the end of history and of art with reflections on poetic discourse as a border, as well as with a revision of the concept of representation, in order to analyze how poetry aligns itself with death while at the same time freeing itself from it.</dcterms:description>

<dcterms:description>The Aguada culture of northwestern Argentina (Middle Period, AD 600–950), contemporaneous with the Middle Horizon of the Central Andean Area, forms part of the cultural process that spread the religious ideology of the Tiwanaku interaction sphere across much of the Andean area. The consolidation of the beliefs, values, and behaviors that sustained it was expressed in the symbolic character of the iconographic repertoire incorporated into various objects and community spaces, such as funerary contexts and rock art.
The study of Middle Period burials in the Aguada Orilla Norte cemetery, in the Hualfín Valley, Catamarca, revealed recurrences that made it possible to affirm that the preparation of the burials responded to a deep, socially established symbolic content. Some of the recorded modalities must have corresponded to situations of social inequality, while others were related to the roles performed by individuals during life.
The human figures represented in Aguada iconography have been differentiated as deities or as figures with special functions in the cult, such as the sacrificer. A group of seven burials from this cemetery was interpreted as belonging to individuals who fulfilled this ceremonial role; in these burials, the individuals were interred with metal axes incorporated into the mortuary assemblage.
This paper analyzes the mortuary practices intended for the sacrificers, as well as the uses and restrictions of the icons incorporated into their funerary contexts in relation to the total repertoire used by the community buried in the cemetery. It highlights the symbolic value of the differential use of metal axes by one segment of the population.</dcterms:description>
