<text>“Learning in Confinement” is a research setting framed within the University of the Street Project. Its protagonists are adolescents detained for various offenses in Penal No. 2, commonly known as the Juvenile Detention Center, since it houses adolescents between 16 and 21 years of age.
The purpose of this work is to inquire into the forms of learning that emerge during subjects’ interaction in everyday life. In Penal No. 2, there are adolescents who have intuitively developed the role of “prisoners” or inmates, assimilating this learning through coexistence. An inmate is understood as a person deprived of liberty, in accordance with Penal Enforcement Law No. 24660, whose legal status is that of a defendant or a convicted person, depending on whether or not a sentence has been issued in his judicial case.
The adolescent becomes an inmate from the moment he enters the correctional facility, but he does not assimilate this condition until his days gradually pass as a peer among other adolescents and as a detainee within the institution. In these relationships with peers and with the authorities of the facility, the inmate gradually deduces, beyond the suggestions of third parties, what is or is not convenient for him to do in order to live better or to come out well in a given situation.
The research process was developed through interviews and direct observations of their behavior in the setting.
The analysis of the data obtained was approached from the perspective of Indicial Semiotics and Social Cognition.
So far, two types of learning have been detected: one by imitation and another by the assimilation of suggestions at the institutional and group levels.
In this way, the circulation of the forms of knowledge of the “University of the Street” was identified in the construction of the life of an adolescent who becomes an inmate.</text>

<text>This article examines the educational and occupational expectations and labor market entry challenges facing adolescents and young people from popular sectors in La Matanza (Buenos Aires Province). To this end, it analyzes the results of the 2025 Survey conducted by the Comprehensive System for the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Children and Adolescents of La Matanza within the framework of the MUNA Initiative (United Municipality for Childhood and Adolescence) of UNICEF. The analysis focuses particularly on differences by gender and age group.
The findings confirm the need to examine both challenges and expectations through these two analytical axes. While the older youth group largely perceives the school's role in job preparation negatively, the adolescent group, by contrast, views its contribution positively. Furthermore, when asked about their future employment, most respondents express concerns about working conditions; however, an interesting finding is that among young women, work is notably highlighted as a place of learning.
Regarding labor market challenges, the study examines which factors respondents emphasize, introducing a novel approach by analyzing these perceptions according to their study and work situation. In contrast to the literature, which often emphasizes the perception of subjective factors such as lack of training, the majority of these young people instead point to contextual factors. This finding aligns with the hypothesis concerning the support and guidance provided by the SIPPD spaces in which these young people participate, particularly in relation to their life projects. The comprehensive, rights-based approach of these spaces deepens the understanding of the difficulties these youth face and supports the construction of their perceptions. This underscores the importance of continuing to strengthen these spaces, as they play a key role in shaping the educational and occupational expectations and opportunities of adolescents and young people from popular sectors.</text>

<text>The rammed-earth construction technique known in Nazareno as tapia majada constitutes a central element in the history of this town, located in the Eastern Cordillera of Salta. This ancestral practice is linked both to the materiality of houses and communal spaces and to agro-pastoral dynamics characterized by mobility across different ecological zones. The article analyzes the historical and cultural development of the rammed-earth construction technique in Nazareno, understood not only as a set of material procedures, but also as part of a broader building culture that articulates technical knowledge, territory, and the social memories that shape the Colla community’s ways of inhabiting the territory. On the one hand, written and graphic records were consulted in local and provincial libraries, as well as in family records, providing historical and visual sources. On the other hand, the oral memory of local inhabitants was explored through interviews and meetings. This dual perspective made it possible to bring together historical documentation and local narratives, acknowledging the plurality and tensions within these memories. The analysis reveals that tapia majada was the predominant technique in the earliest constructions that gave rise to the town. Today, although it is used alongside modern materials, the technique remains in use in dwellings, fences, and smaller structures, confirming its historical and cultural relevance in shaping the Andean territory and the collective memory of Nazareno.</text>

<text>This paper analyzes the Argentine film El estudiante (The Student), Santiago Mitre’s debut film (2011), which contains the seeds of many of the themes of his later work. The objective is, through immanent criticism method (as Adorno understand it), to interrogate its perception of politics; specifically, we problematize (what, with Bourdieu, can be conceived as) the principles of vision and division through which this film constructs and stages a particular sense of the political game. To this end, the film studies the different ways in which different main characters play this game in the film, as well as the trajectories they develop throughout it. On this basis, the different oppositions that configure these principles of division are addressed: the one that opposes the academic to the political, the one that pits the latter against personal relationships, and the one that contrasts the public with the private. Finally, it seeks to show that the principles of division thus configured are not exclusive to this film (nor to Mitre’s filmography), but rather, they express a particular tradition of Argentine political culture and its limitations.</text>

<text>In the last quarter of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th, the Salta-Jujuy region saw the consolidation of a sugar production model characterized by the incorporation of new technologies, the cooptation of massive labor during the harvest, and the creation of “company towns” on large estates, whose central core consisted of the owner’s residence and the factory. In Campo Santo (General Güemes, Salta) where the first modern sugar mills of the province emerged, this process -known in historiography as the “transition stage” between preindustrial sugar production and the modern agroindustry- has not yet been analyzed from an archaeological perspective. This work presents the methodology used to locate rural properties and buildings linked to the sugar mills that experienced the boom brought about by technological modernization in the study area. The proposal combines documentary analysis with oral and visual records, through on-site surveys and image processing to produce high-resolution photogrammetric outputs using specialized software. The activities carried out made it possible to identify possible domestic spaces associated with agricultural workers, as well as a virtually unknown mill whose original structures remain intact. The results highlight the potential of these findings both for future research aimed at investigating the daily lives of the various social actors who converged in the sugar industry, and for analyses that explore the social aspects underlying the design and organization of these company towns, drawing on the tools provided by spatial syntax.</text>

<text>During the second half of the twentieth century, in the province of Mendoza, it is possible to trace the origins of a technological shift that laid the foundations for several aspects of the wine industry’s restructuring around 1990. In this context, state efforts played a significant role in promoting technical innovations oriented toward a quality paradigm and the social construction of the wine’s “good taste.” The National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA), through its Experimental Stations located in Mendoza, was a central actor in this process, particularly through the production and dissemination of research among wine producers.
This historical study identifies forms of knowledge developed between 1960 and 1990 at the Agricultural Experimental Stations in Mendoza and disseminated through the monthly journal IDIA (Informativo de Investigaciones Agrícolas). In particular, the analysis focuses on research concerning varietal selection and genetic improvement of vines, the incorporation of technical improvements in vineyards and harvesting practices, the adaptation of agricultural machinery, and improvements in phytosanitary systems, all aimed at enhancing the organoleptic characteristics of grapes and wine. These bodies of knowledge and “technological artifacts” contributed to synchronizing productive practices and technical criteria—serving as indicators of a redefinition of enological “quality” in Mendoza—within a historical context marked by efforts to position Mendoza’s wine within international markets. In this sense, the restructuring of the 1990s should not be understood as an abrupt and isolated process but rather as the visible outcome of a longer process of technological transformation and innovation originating in the 1960s, which ultimately made possible the production of exportable wines of high enological quality.</text>

<text>This paper analyzes the essay production of two thinkers from Catamarca during the first decades of the 20th century. On the one hand, we focus on the essays by Catamarcan doctor and philosopher Jorge Galíndez, who in many publications finds critical considerations in German Romanticism to rethink the problems of his time in the late 1940s, such as fascism, state authoritarianism, and the advance of cultural capitalism. On the other hand, we explore how the work of Luis Leopoldo Franco begins to lean toward recovering Romantic foundations to consider the natural and social problems of his time. In Franco’s literature, we can find traces of a philosophical thought developed from local cultural coordinates, such as his rejection of religious priority in the province of Catamarca, the region’s modes of speech, local nature, conflicts over water and land, as well as his critique of the politics and art of Argentina and the northern region. To carry out our analysis we appeal to the historical-intellectual reconstruction of the New Intellectual History, which will enable us to re-establish the tensions and disputes over ideas in the contexts of local culture. We believe that, through this approach, we can reconstruct the authors’ ideas within their respective contexts, considering the tensions, the prevailing discourse of the early 20th century, and the intellectual debates that unfolded in their texts. In doing so, we aim to account for a field of conflicting ideas that will allow us to identify the philosophical ideas circulating in Catamarca at the beginning of the 20th century, thus contributing to a history of local philosophy. Finally, we try to emphasize that both authors reject the growing mechanistic nature of the societies of their time, attempting to find in the aesthetic experience of Romanticism the possibility of thinking of a response.</text>

<text>This article analyzes the collective actions of peasant-indigenous family farming (AFCI) in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, in the context of land conflicts. The province is considered a paradigmatic case due to the precarious nature of land tenure, where 43.07% of farms lack defined boundaries, placing the agricultural space in a condition of high structural vulnerability. The study proposes an analytical matrix that articulates two dimensions: the type of conflict and the form of collective action. The objective is to understand how land disputes not only entail risks of eviction and disintegration, but also act as catalysts for defensive actions (to avoid deterritorialization) and proactive actions (to secure rights and living conditions). Methodologically, a qualitative approach was chosen through a study of four local organizational processes with different trajectories of struggle. It concludes that overt territorial conflicts tend to consolidate organizational agendas, demonstrating the capacity of these actors to generate innovative responses at the local level and diversify their networks.</text>

Using a qualitative methodology that combined documentary analysis and interviews, the study explored the meanings, mediations, and tensions that shape access to the program and its influence on young people’s educational trajectories. The objectives of the study are to analyze the implementation of PROGRESAR from the perspective of coordinators and youth, and to understand how its redistributive and recognition dimensions are articulated in the territory. The analysis reveals that PROGRESAR operates with constraints in the articulation between economic redistribution and cultural recognition, and that administrative, territorial, and symbolic barriers persist, affecting educational trajectories. Although the program represents significant state support for youth, a weak appropriation of PROGRESAR as a right is observed, which limits its potential to promote equality. The findings contribute to understanding how this policy is configured in the territory and highlight the central role of institutional mediations in its implementation.</text>

<text>The present work aims to analyze the different meanings that the heterogeneous press produced, transmitted, and put into circulation when narrating the death, burial, and posthumous biography of the popular actress and aviator Myriam Stefford (1905–1931). Based on studies on the social and cultural history of sport and death, the funeral is analyzed as a polyphonic ritual in which different social actors, among whom the press played a central role, contributed to the construction of an ideal type of modern femininity. The hermeneutic analysis articulated the press as “text” in relation to the historical and contextual conditions of its production. Among the article’s conclusions, an ambiguous and contradictory rupture with the traditional gendered body order is highlighted, since Stefford’s death and funeral projected and imagined, through the press, new ways of being, inhabiting, and experiencing femininity in the modern social and sporting world (leaving behind domestic comfort, challenging masculine homosocial spaces, demonstrating independence, audacity, and determination, etc.), while at the same time reproducing certain gender scripts with rather traditional meanings (reinforcing romantic love, reproducing a cis-heteronormative aesthetic, and accepting the monopoly of male scientific expertise within the universe of aeronautics, etc.). Over the years and decades, Stefford’s figure and posthumous biography became consolidated both within and beyond the field of aviation; however, narratives surrounding her death and biography changed in meaning and significance, producing diametrically different representations of her death and legacy.</text>

<text>Modalities of state intervention in poor neighbourhoods of Greater Buenos Aires are characterized by the persistence of different forms of informality, which are reconfigured in complex ways by public policies. This article examines how the representations held by residents of these territories resolve inconsistencies between formal and informal elements while constructing memories of state programs and refracting them into expectations of intervention. The article presents a systematization of interviewee profiles, which tend to converge around two state roles, characterized by the categories of control and assistance. The research shows how these roles are inscribed in a complex symbolic structure shared by the residents of the neighbourhood studied, which resolves polarities and tensions through expectations of formalization and recognition. However, this structure is also configured in divergent ways depending on recent participation in public policies, particularly employment programs. The fieldwork consisted of a series of semi-structured interviews conducted in a settlement in the Municipality of Quilmes, in the southern area of Greater Buenos Aires.</text>

<text>This paper examines the changes in indigenous taxation following the extinction of the last private encomiendas in the jurisdiction of Córdoba, with a focus on the figure of the capitán recaudador de tributo (tribute-collecting captain), a position created in the Governorate of Tucumán in 1761. The study covers the two decades prior to the creation of this office—when collectors with similar functions were already in place—as well as the period during which these captains were appointed by the cabildo (1761–1784). The research draws on cross-referenced sources such as the accounting books of the Royal Treasury of Córdoba, cabildo records, governmental and judicial proceedings, correspondence, and population censuses. It analyzes the responsibilities and fiscal jurisdictions of these collectors, the duration of their appointments, and their performance in tribute collection. The aim is to critically assess the impact of the changes in the taxation regime, the administration of the tribute system, and the fiscal territorialization carried out by these agents on the rights of the indigenous population. Two main conclusions are drawn. First, the new scheme of tax collection and territorialization—initially applied to both native and non-local indigenous peoples throughout the jurisdiction but later restricted to those registered in reducciones (settlements)—resulted in a differentiation of rights. This shift favoured indigenous groups assigned to officially recognized settlements, while marginalizing those who were dispersed or integrated into non-recognized collectives. Second, the tribute-collecting captains consolidated their roles as intermediaries and influential agents within communal politics.</text>

<text>In the context of the decline in infant mortality (IM) in Argentina, limitations in vital statistics have hindered the assessment of inequalities across groups defined by social determinants of health, such as parental educational attainment. Therefore, the aim of this study is to estimate these inequalities in order to generate information that enables their monitoring. To this end, an indirect demographic technique known as the Brass method is applied to estimate infant mortality among children of mothers with different educational levels. Key findings indicate that women in Argentina have progressively attained higher levels of education. Fertility rates show an overall declining trend but remain polarized across social strata, with higher levels among lower-income groups. In this context, the reduction in infant mortality has not been uniform across maternal educational levels. Although the decline has been greater among children of less-educated mothers, these children continue to face nearly twice the risk of dying compared to those born to more-educated mothers. This risk was higher in earlier generations and has decreased over time. Finally, while the gap in infant mortality has narrowed, inequalities in the risk of infant death associated with maternal educational level still persist.</text>

<text>This paper analyzes institutional changes in health policies related to childhood and their effects on the relationships between health care professionals and service users at a pediatric hospital care center in Santiago del Estero, Argentina. From a qualitative perspective, in-depth interviews were conducted with those who conceptualized and implemented the creation of this center, along with an analysis of the institutional dispositif based on participant observation records. Content analysis made it possible to explore meanings and interpretations surrounding the process of the Center’s creation, as well as to identify changes and continuities in paradigms, practices, and regulatory frameworks. Among the findings, we highlight, on the one hand, tensions between political strategies, discourses of protection, and public health practices related to childhood. On the other hand, the study reveals the paradoxes and challenges of institutional changes aimed at improving the quality of health care, from the perspectives of workers and managers. In conclusion, while modernization and the changes implemented were necessary, they were not sufficient to guarantee the production of care. By contrast, the relational and subjective dimension of medical consultations reveals a tendency toward the consolidation of the commodification of health care and the subordination of service users, which stands in tension with advances in the field of rights.</text>
