<text>A problem that cannot be avoided in most of the problems related to epistemology and semantics is that of relativism. Through spontaneous observation we verify the existence of different social and cultural groups, that possess their particular way of believing and thinking about different empirical, moral, cognitive matters, etc. A relativist philosopher, faced with this panorama, intends to give a satisfactory explanation, arguing that these groups live in “different worlds”. And these different worlds are the result of the different classificatory conceptual schemes that are used by social groups.
The structure of the work proposes to analyze Davidson’s essay: “On the very idea of a conceptual scheme” as follows: first, to make conceptual clarifications of the term “relativism”, second, to determine degrees of conceptual relativism; and third, to explain typical patterns of how language, thought, and reality can be combined. And finally, to work on Davidson’s essay on the basis of Rabossi’s article and Kuhn’s chapter. From all this, we shall develop some thoughts that emerged from the reading of these texts.</text>

<text>In the last two decades of the twentieth century, the phenomenon of poverty has shown extensive and intensive growth.
On one hand, there are more and more people who have less, and on the other hand, there are new sectors added to this category who are considered poor.
This situation has given rise to different studies about the phenomenon, generating theoretical and empirical debates about the possibilities of the knowledge that the social sciences have regarding it.
Especially in Argentina, different interpretations were carried out, whose differences originated both at the methodological level and in the determination of the units of analysis or in the use of different theoretical frameworks.
This work synthesizes the first findings of a research work that is being carried out, analyzing the worldviews implied by the different approaches to poverty in our country in the 1990s. Though the present research work has an epistemological character, it also tries to show that the different ways of representing and intervening in poverty imply ontological assumptions.
This communication has two main objectives. One is to explain the ontological content of the studies about poverty, and the other is to reflect on the critical role of philosophy in a disciplinary field of deep practical consequences. In this sense, it will be argued, first, that theories have certain descriptions of “what the poor are like”; second, that an analysis of the ontological dimension provides a reflection about the ways things exist, thus allowing the analysis of pre- and meta-theoretical components of theories. Finally, through this means, it is possible to rethink, in a different way, epistemological practice as philosophy of the social sciences.</text>

<text>This article analyzes student participation in university classes from the students’ own perspective and examines the reasons underlying frequent or limited classroom involvement. The study was conducted with 151 students enrolled in different degree programs at the National University of Río Cuarto, using a rating-scale question followed by an open-ended prompt. Results show that 53.6% of the students considered themselves to have a low level of participation, whereas 46.4% reported participating frequently. The main reasons for limited participation included personality traits, fear of making mistakes or being judged, lack of prior preparation, insufficient understanding of the subject matter, difficulty expressing ideas, and lack of interest. In contrast, frequently participating students mentioned clarifying doubts, contributing ideas and viewpoints, supporting their own and their classmates’ learning, interest in the topics, and confirming or correcting personal interpretations. Based on these findings, the article emphasizes the teacher’s role in creating non-threatening environments, encouraging dialogue, and implementing strategies that foster meaningful student contributions. It concludes that classroom participation should be considered in instructional planning as a resource for adjusting pedagogical support and strengthening the collaborative construction of knowledge.</text>

<text>This article analyzes university students’ perceptions of the assessment of their learning. It first presents a theoretical synthesis organized around six dimensions: what assessment is, what should be assessed, how and when it should be conducted, who assesses and for whom, and its purposes. From this perspective, assessment is understood as a systematic and value-based process aimed at decision-making, integrated into teaching, formative, democratic, participatory, and oriented toward improving learning. The article also questions the reduction of assessment to grading and examinations. It then reports the results of research conducted with students from the Faculty of Education at the University of Santiago de Compostela and an exploratory study involving students of Education Sciences and Health Education at the National University of Jujuy. In both contexts, students perceive assessment as mainly focused on grading, control, and decisions about promotion through final examinations. They also report limited participation, unclear assessment criteria, an emphasis on results, and little consideration of learning processes, effort, attitudes, and study conditions. Although some differences appear between the degree programs examined, the findings suggest a considerable gap between theoretical principles of educational assessment and the university assessment practices perceived by students.</text>

<text>We understand professional development as something more than a plan for continuing education, although the latter is a determining factor in professional development. Likewise, we believe that responsibility for continuing education at the university does not belong exclusively to any particular sector but to the university as a whole, with each area contributing its own potential and richness to the training project, such as departments, Institutes of Education Sciences, quality units, and teaching staff offices.
Having said this, the purpose of this article is only to present, in broad terms, the actions carried out by the Institute of Education Sciences of the University of Málaga in its work to support the professional development of university teaching staff. Therefore, everything stated here about professional development should be understood from this perspective, that is, from the standpoint of a university center or institute devoted to continuing education.</text>

<text>This article proposes preliminary guidelines for constructing a general history of the Latin American university based on the substantial body of existing sectoral research. Such a history should account for both shared features and regional, local, and institutional particularities, without becoming a mere collection of national studies or relying on a predetermined framework. To this end, the author identifies lines of convergence related to common institutional origins, comparable historical actors, analogous sociopolitical processes, and the contemporary challenges of globalization. The article also emphasizes the need to examine divergences arising from specific contexts and academic traditions. The proposed methodological framework includes a general periodization, the development of academic typologies, and a critical review of historiographical models such as diffusion, apostle, theoretical-chain, and interactive-network approaches. Finally, the article advocates comparative studies of university statutes, curricula, religious orders, student movements, and the participation of women and minority groups. It also recommends creating catalogues of sources, critical bibliographies, and exchange programs among Latin American researchers.</text>

<text>This article examines the contemporary situation of philosophy within a context marked by the cultural, cognitive, and social fragmentation associated with postmodernity. This transformation affects both the traditional unity of the philosophical field and the identity and functions of those who practice it. Several disciplines formerly included within philosophy have become autonomous, while philosophers increasingly specialize or participate in interdisciplinary programs. The author identifies five prevailing tendencies: the predominance of the critical function over foundational projects, the preference for procedural approaches, an emphasis on problematization rather than answers, cognitive diagnosis instead of theoretical-practical guidance, and the emergence of styles of thought in place of philosophical schools. Despite these changes, philosophy retains two fundamental features: the radical critical exercise of reason and the profound interpretation of the culture of its time. The relaxation of traditional criteria of rationality opens new possibilities for formulating problems, incorporating phenomenological and hermeneutic approaches, and integrating cognitive and practical dimensions. Finally, the article highlights the problem of meaning and the recovery of historicity as horizons from which philosophy may address difference, overcome nihilistic indifference, and renew its engagement with contemporary reality.</text>

<text>This article reviews some of Clifford Geertz’s central contributions to interpretive anthropology and examines the epistemological assumptions underlying several chapters of The Interpretation of Cultures. It first considers the importance attributed to his work in the emergence of postmodern anthropology and in the consolidation of the hermeneutic paradigm. It then analyzes his semiotic conception of culture as a web of meanings and his understanding of ethnography as “thick description,” conceived as an interpretation of the interpretations produced by social actors. Through analytical matrices connecting the author’s intentions, intellectual operations, developed contents, and epistemological assumptions, the article examines texts on religion, sacred symbols, ritual, social change, and politics. The analysis highlights the relationship between subjectivity and objectivity, facts and meanings, empirical material and theoretical construction, as well as Geertz’s interdisciplinary openness and rejection of methodological dogmatism. Finally, the Balinese wajang, or shadow-puppet theatre, is presented as a metaphor for the production and interpretation of meaning in both social life and anthropological science.</text>

When we approach the analysis of the groups of “intellectuals” active in Argentina during the 1920s, and when we seek to do so in terms of “field”, we are obliged—in order to know what we are talking about—to go back to the study of the composition of the elites of the society in question, and above all to their dynamics of transformation. It is here that the model becomes more complex and, at the same time, displays its potentialities. As always in the social sciences, the point is not to “apply” an explanatory model, but rather to put a concept to work, taking advantage of its heuristic possibilities according to the particularities of the case and the available material.
Between 1920 and 1930, by contrast, not only had the composition of the governing groups diversified, but it no longer coincided directly with the groups holding economic or social power.
A diachronic analysis of the composition of women’s associations—such as charitable societies, other institutions linked to the Church, such as the Saint Vincent de Paul Society, and those that emerged at the beginning of the twentieth century, such as the Society of Patrician Women or the Women’s Branch of the Patriotic League—confirms the same intuition. Everything suggests that, during these years, a dissociation occurred among economic, political, and social capital. If, in the nineteenth century, the same families accumulated all forms of capital—precisely because of the lack of differentiation of symbolic capital—from 1920 onward we find evidence of progressive differentiation.
As we shall see, the efforts to construct a specific space for intellectuals with their own voice were marked by a voluntaristic bias, by the still very strong presence of the “notable”, and by debates closely linked to the combination of this traditional presence with the debates characteristic of the 1920s. In Buenos Aires, by that time, those debates were already the expression of struggles within a relatively autonomous field, in which the different avant-garde groups specifically opposed the literary practices of an earlier generation of intellectuals.</text>

              <elementText elementTextId="21056">

I seek to analyze how the discourses and practices it developed influenced the configuration of the meanings assigned to the curriculum in the successive political-educational projects through which attempts were made to organize the country during the second half of the twentieth century.
These considerations are nourished by the fabric of certain unavoidable theoretical assumptions on which my reflections are based, always referring to events of which many of us preserve some record in the anchor points of our historical memory.
As a result of this path, I affirm that educational planning has become the most legitimate “rationalizing spokesperson for the ideals” that were gradually configured and assumed in our time as central contents of political-educational projects and, therefore, of the curricular projects proposed for the country with hegemonic aspirations.</text>

<text>Does equality of opportunity in education actually exist, as proposed in our country in the statements of the Federal Education Law (Law 24195, 14/04/93, Title II, Chapter I, Article 5, Paragraph f)?
When analyzing the complex network of exogenous and endogenous factors, it can be affirmed, at least with regard to the school realities studied, that situations of social inequality and the unjust distribution of goods have a significant impact on students’ learning and on the transformation that should take place through the educational process. We therefore conclude, always with reference to the known cases, that school failure is not produced solely by the internal functioning of the system, but is rather the product of prevailing social patterns; that is, of factors arising from the broader socioeconomic context that generate the situations experienced by students.
Thus, equality of opportunity in education cannot be sustained in a society in which social groups exist under conditions of inequality.
The field study was carried out through teaching practices in 8th and 9th grade rural classrooms, in the area of Language. The interpretation takes two aspects into account: the prescribed curriculum and its realization in school practices, that is, the hidden curriculum.</text>

I, Art. 5º, inciso F)?”

The project aims to investigate the argumentative ability of students in Polimodal Education and the strategies used by teachers to help them acquire this ability.
We present the results of several surveys administered to teachers and students at this educational level. The final objective is to offer in-service training to the teachers of the participating institutions on methodologies for constructing an argument.
It is important to introduce a discursive logic that gives a certain coherence and rationality to the development of thought, a task that corresponds to the logic of argumentation.</text>
