<text>This paper seeks to establish that the major changes in the history of the Spanish lexical system form part of discursive constructions that emerged from new ideologies in various orders of social reality. Language, immersed in that reality, has been, and still is, a faithful reflection of processes of change in mentality, which it expresses through a distinct lexical-grammatical style, setting renewed modalities of verbal transaction into play.
The transformations of the lexical body of Spanish accompanied the political and cultural vicissitudes of the Western Christian world. With the arrival of the Spanish conqueror in these lands, the first version of what we today call globalization took place from a geographical, political-economic, ethnic, linguistic, and cultural point of view. The globalized lexicon was the result of a double-edged linguistic force.
The Industrial Revolution of the nineteenth century exerted pressure on Spanish, as on the other known languages, to unify and globalize the designations of new products, thereby favoring their international circulation. Finally, at the turn of the millennia, cultural globalization and technological determinism have transformed our mentalities; our communicational codes now require lexical forms better adjusted to new cognitive dimensions and to other social demands.
Approaching this renewed lexicon presupposes the existence of groups of specialists in innovative domains, possessing sufficient denominative expertise to make a lexical selection useful for the development of processes of receptive comprehension and of discursive production capable of disseminating the prevailing changes in mentality.</text>

<text>The objective of this research paper is to contribute to the study of dramaturgy in Northwestern Argentina through the analysis of an unknown play titled Verditón poeta en el país de Izder, by Roberto Albeza.
The main point of reflection is the constitution of a peculiar linguistic dimension throughout the work, a crucial aspect given its high degree of hermeticism. In principle, Verditón is marked by the constant use of a quasi-lyrical language, reinforced by the insertion of fragments of poems. For this reason, the boundaries between dramatic prose and poetry are not clear; rather, they tend to be blurred as much as possible in order to produce a hybrid text, rich in tangential zones, that reveals an original crossing of genres. This hermeticism is also produced through the inclusion of a strong surrealist vein.
In addition, poetic language reinforces the constitution of a particular semantic universe that determines its own mythology and mechanics. In this sense, around the figure of Verditón, the word acquires an unusual force and gains the capacity to create a world as a quasi-divine instrument. Thus, there is a clear metalinguistic component that makes the play largely self-referential.</text>

<text>This paper focuses on a dowry deed drawn up in San Salvador de Jujuy in 1596. The event documented in this notarial deed takes place within an economically important family, whose members owned several lands granted by the dominant Spanish authority. The family has the particularity of being composed of parents belonging to two different ethnic groups: the Indigenous one, represented by the ruler of an Aymara people, and the Spanish one, represented by his wife. A third member is their mestiza daughter, legitimate daughter of the married couple granting the dowry, as was customary at the time.
We are dealing with a written text of a legal nature and official-administrative character, whose special language is manifested in simple and complex lexical units, including formulaic phrases, typical of texts from that period.
The document is not organized into paragraphs; there are no punctuation marks to guide the search for meaning; and sentence construction is anomalous, since the logical relations among the structures that compose them are not respected. Nevertheless, discourse markers guide and order the inferences needed to construct the semantic fabric of the text.
This paper focuses on the analysis of discourse markers in the document, such as por ende, la cual, por tanto, asimismo, among others, in order to show that they are capable of organizing the statements of discourse through their semantic-pragmatic values, and that their connective function lies in the linking role they play between utterances and enunciation.</text>

In the statement declaring the winners who would take part in the Regional Theatre Festival, Northwestern Argentina Zone, the jury justified its decision not to select the production, despite its merits, by stating that the entire segment of the dramatic text corresponding to the biblical character Mary Magdalene “is a textual copy” of Fuegos by Marguerite Yourcenar, Alfaguara edition, May 1995, pages 73, 74, 75, 78, 80, 81, 82, 83, and 85, from the chapter titled “Magdalena o la salvación”.
The purpose of this paper is not to argue about the jury’s decision, but to contribute to clarifying the particular type of writing that can be recognized in Miriam Díaz’s text. This text forms part of what we call “the new Salta dramaturgy”, in which certain features recur: collage composition, marked intertextuality, self-reflexivity, and poeticity. All of them are clearly perceptible in Magdalena, su pasión, but our attention focuses on the specific form of intertextuality that we identify as rewriting.
Magdalena o la salvación, the poetic prose included in Fuegos by Marguerite Yourcenar, is neither the only nor the most important hypotext of Magdalena, su pasión. Through the technique of subtle “threading” and “suturing”, carefully selected fragments from La última tentación by Nikos Kazantzakis and El evangelio según Jesucristo by José Saramago are also interwoven. The examination of this triple textual warp shows that the rewriter has carried out an integral and “networked” reading of the three hypotexts, which, in their scenic concretization, permeate the non-verbal sign systems of the stage text, and not only through words. Therefore, the rewriting process becomes evident not only on the textual surface, but also at deeper levels of meaning.</text>

<text>This paper considers Jacobo Fijman’s essayistic writing, which, throughout the reading, emerges as metapoetic insofar as it offers certain keys for interpreting his poetry. Thus, the essays acquire a significant value by shedding light on a poetic production of very limited intelligibility. Our analysis is informed, among other approaches, by semantics and generative poetics.
The conclusions we reach are several; most of them confirm, through this new path, certainties or suspicions already sustained by previous research, as indicated in the bibliography. For example, these essays partly explain the austerity characteristic of Fijman’s last poetry collection, the configuration of an annihilated subject, and a discursive structure in constant movement.
The decisive conclusion is that the lullaby, as the first genre to which one has access, acts as a basic structure in a large part of Fijman’s poetry. From there, expression becomes possible despite the violence exerted by madness and mystical rapture. In turn, through the detection of features of melopoeia, the fundamental role of orality is especially highlighted, both in encoding and decoding. The lullaby also points to the peculiar presence/absence of the “other”, constitutive of the mother-child “we”.</text>

<text>Tracing literary production in Jujuy is an arduous and difficult task, mainly because there is no physical space in which the entirety of the province’s bibliographic production has been preserved.
It is also difficult to record works produced by women, especially because no books by women authors appear to have been published before the 1930s. The first recorded work published by a woman dates from 1934. There are, however, periodical publications, such as newspapers and magazines, that have hosted women’s voices over time and, although the work is exhausting, it is by no means fruitless.
Although only two works published by women are known for the decade from 1934 to 1944, the presence of women stands out in the pages of the magazine Jujuy, whose first issue appeared in September 1936 and whose last issue was published in February 1940.
The objective of this paper is to explore the thematic and formal characteristics of the lyric poetry written by women in this cultural publication, which circulated in the province in the mid-1930s.
As a result of this inquiry, we will attempt to answer two major questions. First, to what extent these productions are inserted within a literary tradition, and also what proposals for renewal and rupture they attempt. Second, we are interested in offering an answer regarding the social place occupied by women within the written production of the period.</text>

<text>El Moreno is a rural community located in the department of Tumbaya, in the Jujuy Puna, in which the unequal conditions of access to a quality electricity service can be analyzed. Technical and economical limitations are not enough to explain this situation. There are social and historical reasons that also must be taken into account. In this article we provide a scheme of approach that makes it possible to articulate the several issues that should be considered in order to analyze the electrical supply in rural areas without connection to the national electricity market. The intention is to show that public policies of electrical supply are only concerned with domestic needs, and, consequently, potential productive uses and the possibilities of promoting local development are neglected.</text>

<text>The aim of this article is to introduce some hypotheses about the origins of the Radical Party (1891) in Salta.
The research team from “Argentine History III" of the School of History, U.N.Sa. (National University of Salta), has developed these hypotheses as an integral part of a larger piece of research about the provincial political system, included in Project No. 330 from C.I.U.N.Sa. (Research Committee from the U.N.Sa.) entitled "Radicalism and Peronism in Salta: Strategies of Social Penetration in their Origins. Comparative Studies".
The present research deals with a topic that has not been much investigated by the local historians. Using Gramscian categories, we have approached the analysis of the mediation of a newly born layer of “organic intellectuals" within the context of the division of the provincial bourgeoisie.
In our opinion, this new layer of organic intellectuals, at first, tries to articulate the interests of the different groups in relation to the National State. In a second stage, with the economic crisis of the late 1880s and the difficulties of the integration, a break occurs in the provincial dominant bloc -also a break in the intellectual bloc-. One faction reinforces domination over society in an exclusionary way, while the other faction, by questioning the oligarchic form acquired by the exercise of power, gives rise to the Radical Civic Union.</text>

<text>The objective of this paper is to show the condition of Spanish women in San Miguel de Tucumán through the institution of marriage, from the foundation of San Miguel in Ibatín to the middle of the eighteenth century, when the first signs appear of women seeking and defending a space of their own.
Women's role is analyzed, considering the economic aspect, expressed in her dowry, as well as the ceremonial aspect through the different stages of the marriage pact.
The lack of women's autonomy is studied as well as their subjection to state protection.
The governors' policy determined women's situation by helping them with their dowries and arranging their marriages. This meant offering them protection, but it also implied a degree of manipulation.
Fathers and husbands had unlimited authority over their daughters and wives. Within this framework, women themselves looked for support and security from their male relatives, the state itself, and the church.
The study also considers women outside the marriage system, marriage annulments, and extramarital situations: cohabitation and adultery, as well as the state's efforts to put social structure in order, based on the protection of family ties.</text>

<text>This paper studies the «mestizo» group of Acatzingo (Puebla, New Spain) at the end of the eighteenth century. Located at the crossroads that connected Mexico City, Veracruz, and the Tierras Calientes, textile manufacturing was an important activity of the town. Determining the features that «mestizos» shared or did not share with the other non-indigenous groups (spatial distribution, sex, marital status, and occupation) allows us to make progress in our knowledge of the influence that ethnic structure had in the social relationships in New Spain.</text>

They had taken his place after his death and managed to keep the valley population of this province in rebellion, even after the execution of Tupak Katari. The mentioned source is in section IX of the AGN, Buenos Aires, and, through this analysis, we intend to approach the communal political system—election of authorities and office succession, cacique and minor authorities' representativeness—and the political, social, and economic articulations between different communities in the Aymara region.</text>

<text>In this paper we analyze the changes undergone by the composition of the elite in Salta from the last decades of the eighteenth century in relation to the new position the city occupied within the Andean-meridional region. The incorporation of merchants into the society of Salta affected the Cabildo as a reference point of local political power, since access to the council offices allowed them to enter a sort of “career” towards the top of society, where social status, wealth, and political, military, and clerical posts were combined.
Even though the merchants had nearly monopolized the composition of the Cabildo in the last years of the colonial period, they could not completely displace the members of the landowner families that had already put down roots in the elite. Rather, they were frequently incorporated into those families by means of advantageous marriages. These traditional families, however, also deployed certain strategies to keep control over some of the matters under the Cabildo's authority.
The political life in the city council was far from being quiet and peaceful due to the conflicting interests that emerged when the Intendencia was established. From then on, the alliances between some residents and the royal authorities became more complex in opposition to other groups that struggled steadily to defend the preeminence the Cabildo had had before the Bourbon reforms, designed to reinforce the metropolitan power and the power of the authorities in charge of putting into practice policies, especially fiscal ones, in the colonies.</text>

<text>Although the Spanish conquest of the American continent marked a turning point in the history of the social organization of the indigenous communities, not all the transformations necessarily adopted the direction imposed by the Spanish authorities.
This article offers an example of the latter by analyzing the intra and inter-ethnic conflicts over land ownership that took place in the sixteenth century between the Cuauhtinchans and the Tepeacans. The confrontation was conducted in legal terms within the framework of the Castilian legislation. Yet the conflict was not based solely on ancient claims to land ownership. The Spanish tribute system, along with the new territorial order created for the purposes of tax collection, was also at stake when the Cuauhtinchans and the Tepeacans confronted each other.</text>

<text>For approximately four decades, in a village near Cochabamba, Bolivia, people have celebrated the “Festivity of the Virgin of Urkupiña” on August 15 (in the Catholic calendar the day of the Assumption) This religious ritual brings together thousands of people who come to Urkupiña from most of the departments of the country to ask the Virgin for money loans; these loans are returned to the Virgin with interest during three consecutive years. In 1982 a group of Bolivian nationals, who were living in a neighborhood on the outskirts of Córdoba, started celebrating the Festivity of the Virgin of Urkupiña. Since then, the celebration has taken place on August 15 or around that date, with greater attendance and participation by devotees; this event also takes place in other neighborhoods of Córdoba.
These inhabitants of Córdoba are perceived by their Argentine neighbors as “Bolivian migrants”. Nonetheless, from the perspective of these inhabitants, migration is defined as “coming and going to work”. This paper shows the recreation that these inhabitants have made, in this social space, of their condition as Bolivian "migrants" to the city of Córdoba and how this same condition has modified the meaning of the festivity. In the process of transnationalization, the Virgin has kept her “lender” and “capitalist” character but has incorporated a new “good” into the list of exchanges: “work”.</text>
