This made it possible to formulate particular characteristics of the organization and use of domestic space inside each enclosure.
On this basis, possible areas of daily activity were inferred, and the processed information was related to the Ambato Valley. Consequently, we interpret the enclosures as a set of functionally equivalent units within a residential unit, where both particular and common characteristics made it possible to recognize a space in which a series of activities took place, linked in different recurrent domestic sequences. Urban expansion shows exponential growth in gated communities, while the area occupied by shantytowns has remained practically unchanged.
In MYB, the most significant contrast is represented by the coexistence of gated communities and shantytowns. Gated communities are a rapidly growing trend and drive expansion by occupying large extensions of land. By contrast, the increase in shantytowns is limited, especially considering their proliferation in the rest of GSMT. Nevertheless, many of these gated communities and shantytowns are located very close to one another, while the socioeconomic distance separating their inhabitants continues to widen, accentuating the gap between both groups.]]> En el MYB el contraste más significativo está representado por la coexistencia de UC y VM. In economic terms, the study considered indicators reflecting the dynamics of agricultural activities, manufacturing industry, and the tertiary sector in both economies. In the labor sphere, unemployment and underemployment rates were examined, as well as certain characteristics of the economically active population of each province.
During the years under study, Tucumán experienced greater deterioration in its labor market, since its economy was more deeply affected by the economic changes of the late twentieth century. Catamarca’s economy, by contrast, while going through incipient stages of economic development, was less harmed by neoliberal economic transformations. There, the State maintained a more significant presence, acting as a mitigating factor for economic difficulties in Catamarca’s labor market.]]> En materia económica, se consideraron indicadores que reflejan la dinámica que tuvieron las actividades agropecuarias, la industria manufacturera, y el sector terciario de ambas economías. En los años bajo estudio, Tucumán tuvo un mayor deterioro laboral, puesto que su economía fue afectada de manera más profunda por los cambios económicos de fines del siglo XX. Por su parte, la economía catamarqueña, atravesando etapas incipientes de desarrollo económico, fue menos perjudicada por las transformaciones económicas neoliberales. Characterized by a high incidence and intensity of poverty, it was chosen in order to analyze, on the one hand, the forms of labor-market insertion of its population and, on the other, the importance and specificity assumed by cartoneo as the dominant work activity.
The study uses data from the 2001 National Population, Households, and Housing Census, as well as results from semi-structured interviews conducted in 2011 with a group of families from the neighborhood regarding housing and socioeconomic conditions.
The results make it possible to identify the relationship between cartoneo and the persistence of poverty, insofar as it is an intergenerational work activity carried out by a majority sector of the neighborhood’s households. This activity only makes it possible to maintain subsistence levels.]]> En este contexto, se seleccionó un barrio periférico de la ciudad, denominado Costanera Norte, caracterizado por una elevada incidencia e intensidad de la pobreza, para analizar, por un lado, las formas de inserción en el mercado de trabajo de su población y, por otro, la importancia y especificidad que asume el “cartoneo” como actividad laboral dominante.
Se utilizan para el desarrollo del trabajo datos del Censo Nacional de Población, Hogares y Viviendas del año 2001 y resultados de entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas en el año 2011 a un conjunto de familias del barrio sobre condiciones habitacionales y socioeconómicas.
Los resultados permiten detectar la relación del “cartoneo” con la persistencia de la pobreza en tanto actividad laboral intergeneracional, realizada por un sector mayoritario de los hogares del barrio. It also shows variations in the discursive construction of migrants and their movements, who were regarded as carriers of sanitary danger. These changes are associated with the decline in the demand for agricultural labor, the reduction of migrant stocks, the urbanization of this population, and the crisis of the Welfare State.
The article concludes that the initially inclusive position, together with the defunding of the public sector and the crisis of the health system in the 1990s, became exclusionary and came to openly question the right of foreigners from neighboring countries to receive free health care.]]> El artículo concluye que la especificidad de la condición migratoria no habría fundado prácticas sanitarias focalizadas. Yet, beyond the relevance of these contributions, very little has been investigated regarding the first Justicialist governors or the social policies they implemented in this district.
The purpose of this historical paper is precisely to help fill this gap by analyzing the housing policy of the first Peronist governor of Jujuy: Alberto Iturbe. Emphasis is placed on his political trajectory, his actions regarding the social question, and, fundamentally, the most salient features of his housing policy.
Thus, through the study of different sources from the period—official publications, newspapers, among others—this paper seeks to unveil certain aspects of that social policy carried out by one of the most important figures of first Peronism in the far north of the Argentine Republic.]]> El propósito del presente trabajo histórico reside, precisamente, en intentar llenar este vacío analizando la política de vivienda del primer gobernador peronista en Jujuy: Alberto Iturbe. Drawing on data collected through interviews, we present elements fixed in social memory, identifying changes in everyday practices and the ways in which they were addressed.
Produced after privatization, these changes were marked by the crisis of a world of certainties. Differentiated ways of coping with them also emerged, according to the social position and ties of the agents. For the inhabitants of Palpalá, this crisis would have meaning as a starting point in the transformation of the practices and social relations of the agents.

The links among them were then graphed, along with the principal attributes arising from the ties present in the network.
Toward the end of the paper, after presenting the network analysis of the data processed with UCINET software, a series of categories are analyzed. These categories constitute central axes for sociocultural analysis linked to kinship studies, such as endogamy, place of residence, village endogamy, and the boundaries between endogamy and exogamy.
Finally, in the conclusions, possible analytical lines are established on the basis of formal social network analysis as a valid methodological alternative for characterizing marriage ties, referential surnames, and networks of spatial mobility among the inhabitants of Valle Grande toward the end of the nineteenth century.]]> Desde una perspectiva metodológica basada en el Análisis de Redes Sociales (ARS), la información sobre las uniones conyugales fue ordenada teniendo como referencia principal los apellidos de los cónyuges, para posteriormente graficar los vínculos entre los mismos y los principales atributos surgidos de los lazos presentes en la red.

We also study regulations and actions for the conservation and recovery of certain heritage assets. Finally, we examine how expert knowledge and political power intersect in the institutionalization of heritage. To this end, we take Purmamarca as a case study, a settlement in the Quebrada that has been recognized on different occasions, from the early twentieth century to the present, as a place with elements of historical and tourist interest to be preserved.
This process of heritage selection and valuation has gone through different stages and modes of heritage activation, in which three moments of selection can be observed in academic valuation and in regulations: objects—mainly architectural and archaeological ones—urban centers, and landscapes. At present, this festival is no longer held; however, Pig Iron Day continued to be commemorated through events organized by different groups.
The research drew on journalistic sources and fieldwork in order to provide an approximate and comparative characterization of the different historical moments of this festival. The first difference highlighted was the homogeneous symbolic and social content of the Fiesta del Arrabio of the past. By contrast, present-day commemorative events display divergent contents and diverse connotations, ranging from remembrance marked by evocation, nostalgia, and anecdote to, in other cases, commemorations that have turned into rallies of vindication and denunciation of the damage caused by privatization and the lack of transparency in that process.

Data were obtained on the consumption of the four main daily meals, separately for Monday to Friday and for weekends, as well as on the frequency of consumption of dairy products, meat, vegetables, water, sweets, fried foods, and the practice of physical activity.
Results: Approximately two thirds of the children have the four main meals, both from Monday to Friday and on weekends. With regard to frequency, there was a relatively low percentage of daily consumption of “healthy” food groups, particularly dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. Daily consumption of sugary foods and beverages was high, exceeding 58%, replacing water intake, since one third of the children do not prefer water as their main drink. Only 50% of the children engage in regular physical activity.
Conclusion: The surveyed population maintains deeply rooted cultural patterns related to the foods and preparations consumed, having lived far from urban centers for centuries until two decades ago. Due to improvements in access routes to this community, new foods and technologies have entered abruptly. In light of this situation, the results characterize this population as undergoing a nutritional and epidemiological transition, as well as a transition in food availability and access.]]> Métodos: Se aplicaron encuestas confeccionadas ad hoc a 59 madres y/o tutores de escolares de Antofagasta de la Sierra (204 individuos). Se obtuvieron datos sobre consumo de: 4 comidas principales a diario, de lunes a viernes y los fines de semana por separado, frecuencia de consumo de productos lácteos, carne, verduras, agua, dulces, alimentos fritos y la práctica de actividad física.
Resultados: Aproximadamente dos tercios de los niños realizan las cuatro comidas principales, tanto lunes a viernes como los fines de semana. Frecuencia: Porcentaje relativamente bajo de consumo diario de los grupos de alimentos “saludables”, en particular, los productos lácteos, las frutas y verduras; consumo elevado de alimentos y bebidas azucaradas a diario, más del 58%, sustituyendo la ingesta de agua, ya que un tercio de los niños no prefieren el agua como bebida principal. Sólo el 50% de los niños realiza actividad física con regularidad.
Conclusión: La población encuestada mantiene patrones culturales arraigados en relación con los alimentos y preparaciones consumidas por haber vivido lejos de los centros urbanos durante siglos, hasta hace dos décadas.
