<text>This article reclaims inquiries and reflections developed during the early 90's a century ago, which take into account a number of surveys around communication from a gender perspective. The core of those inquiries and proposals is to take the female word not only as a place of submission from where to express itself, but at the same time, like a strategic point from where to resist and confront the patriarchal structure. The article, also, give rise to the recovery of the rich and diverse pathways which Latin America lead because of this issue, many related to the development of grassroots communications but also to academic initiatives often unknown.</text>

<text>Racism is generally presented as a set of ideas, practices, values and discourses of exclusion that develops in a single dimension: racial. However, since a time ago some authors have recognized that multiple dimensions, including class, nationality, gender, etc., participate in racism. Between these authors emerged a new perspective, Intersectionality, which tries to explain how these multiple dimensions not only participate in this set of ideas, practices, values and discourses of exclusion, but actually interact with each other, making the exclusions more complex and deepening, not only of race, but also of class, gender, etc., when these dimensions overlap and cross each other.
The objective of this work is to briefly introduce some theoretical developments on the Intersectional Approach to then analyze and criticize other theoretical proposals on racism, which include other dimensions besides racial, in the search for a better understanding and definition of the phenomenon for future analysis of the ideas, practices, values and discourses of exclusion. Finally, a couple of cases of intersectional analysis that include race and gender as indispensable analytical categories of difference will be presented.</text>
