<text>This paper shows how residents of San Miguel de Tucumán city proceeded in the 17th century in view of an imminent death, and the different actions they performed for their souls´ salvation. The study is made mostly through the analysis of wills produced in Tucumán in the 17th century. Among other facts it has been possible to distinguish the importance of the will as a juridical-religious document, its main features, and how its discourse was structured. It was also possible to get an approach to the characteristics of the funeral practices and the way people from different social strata got prepared in view of an imminent death.</text>

<text>Presented are here the results of the study of metric expressions of sexual dimorphism in adult individuals from La Falda (SJTil 43) cemetery. La Falda cemetery is characterized by the extraordinary degree of bone integrity in the skeletal assemblages recovered. It is chronologicaly as well as culturaly related to the Early Native-Spanish Contact Period I (Período Hispano-Indígena I). Funerary inclusions found associated with the skeletons are clearly indicative of the sex of the buried individuals. Similar observations were made in previous experiences in which morphological traits were used (i.e. cranium and pelvis). Seventeen adult skeletons out of thrirty one individuals recovered from La Falda cemetery were measured and analyzed using metric variables of long bones: maximum length, as well as diameters of the head of femur and humerus). Results show a clear metric separation between sexes. We conclude that individuals from La Falda belonged to a population with a clear-cut metric dimorphic expression in adulthood.</text>

<text>We present here the results of the anatomofunctional study performed on four skeletal assemblages from Quebrada de Humahuaca: Tilcara (Mulqui and La Falda), Pucará de Tilcara (Barrio Corrales), and Yacoraite (Pucará de Yacoraite). Early to Late Ceramic, Inca and Early Native-Spanish Contact Periods are represented. The objective of this study was considered in order to evaluate possible relations to subsistence patterns, feeding habits, and health. General and cumulative stress indicators, episodic stress indicators, and inespecifi c stress indicators (porotic hyperostosis and cribra orbitalia, infectious diseases, trauma, degenerative conditions, and dental affections), were studied. Bone markers are related with sex dimorphism, mortality, and body use in a wide spectrum of activities, in order to look for variations through time between skeletal subsets, and to explore social stratifi cation and differential access to alimentary resources among the individuals from prehistoric societies at Quebrada de Humahuaca. High percentage of mortality in child hood is observed in Late Ceramic Period assemblages. No variation in the expression of sexual dimorphism through time has been observed in estimated statures. Low percentages of indicatorsof general and episodic stress and high percentages of degenerative conditions and dental pathologies were observed. These results suggest to us that markers studied agree with awaited for agricultural-pastoralist subsistence economies in Quebrada de Humahuaca, and the increased consumption of carbohydrates and abrasive contaminants in the meals. </text>

<text>This paper focuses on law administration in colonial Jujuy, in order to analyze jurisdictional confl icts involving the “Teniente de Valle Rico y Rinconada” from the mining places in Puna de Jujuy. Documental sources are analyzed with an interdisciplinary perspective in historical anthropology. Two levels of analysis are used in a constant interaction: the jurisdictional design developed “from above” (Barriera 2009) which brings us to delve into the offi cial documentation, and the actors´ practices allowing us to see how these same jurisdictions were strained in the heat of disputes. The power patterns are analyzed in order to understand how jurisdictional confl icts were the forces that identifi ed territories (Lopes Souza 1995). This analysis gives us some interpretative keys for the law administration in Puna de Jujuy, highlighting how territorial organization involved confl icts between Charcas, Jujuy, Salta, Tucumán and Chichas and gave an order to the dynamic social reality through a process in which power relations and administrative pathswere mutually infl uenced in a dialectic relationship.</text>

<text>Taltal is located in the desertic southern coast of the Region of Antofagasta, Chile. The Prehispanic paintings from this area are about 1000 years old, and correspond to collecting communities as well as hunting and fishing communities. Their principal feature is to represent land and marine animals as well as humans on rafts made of sea wolfs skin, generally in a hunting attitude of greatmarine preys such as cetacean, sea wolves, sword fishes, etc. The paintings were done with natural pigments with a basis from iron oxide mixed with cactus resin. Our comparative analysis is referred to The Medano cliff, the cliff of San Ramón and the coast is the third sub area analyzed and it corresponds to our recent investigations in sites such as Tierra del Moro, Loreto, Punta de Plata and Miguel Díaz. The interpretative analysis of the paintings is done basically from the presence of and absence of diverse images represented, both from marine animals as well as land animals with cultural features and also scenes representing daily life.</text>
