<text>This paper is situated within the general framework of research linked to business and industrial history, and also within the context of the research project “Railway Dismantling and Steel-Industry Privatization: Socioeconomic Consequences, Social Representations, and Political Identities. The Cases of the General Belgrano Railway and Altos Hornos Zapla in the 1990s in Jujuy, Argentina”.
Following the aforementioned lines of research, this article seeks to determine, on the basis of official sources—such as minutes of the DGFM board of directors and technical reports produced by the company—magazines published by social and cultural associations, and various issues of the commercial press, the main characteristics of the historical development of AHZ. It focuses attention on its qualitative and quantitative productive capacities and on the impact that its privatization generated on local employment.
The results obtained are linked to two specific periods in the development of AHZ. The first stage, from its beginnings until the 1980s, involved the consolidation of an integrated steel-production model and, at the same time, the implementation of a productive model based on an expansionary and integration-oriented policy.
During a second stage, beginning in the mid-1980s, the expansionary trend receded and, subsequently, in the 1990s, AHZ was privatized. The removal of AHZ from state control modified both its productive system and its impact on local employment and on the provincial economy.</text>

<text>This paper analyzes the new role of women in the world of work in Palpalá, Jujuy, after the privatization, in 1992, of the military manufacturing establishment Altos Hornos Zapla. From the definition of a new socio-labor framework, new conditions of existence were created in the city. This paper defines a new social profile of women-led economic entrepreneurship in a context of crisis.
From an interpretive approach, the behavior of a group of economic actors is described within a situational framework. The study combines case analysis from an ethnographic point of view with a sociologically oriented perspective. An analytical framework is designed on the basis of the data collected through the presentation of 12 cases.
Among the main conclusions, the study highlights the importance of the sociocultural environment in the formation of entrepreneurial attitudes, which appear in all cases from childhood. Professional academic training does not necessarily imply the possession of entrepreneurial capacities; indeed, it may even become an obstacle. Practical experience and personal attitudes—such as the ability to adapt to change, persistence, and the capacity to read the context—are more important for developing these capacities.
Training in microenterprise management and credit support promoted by the municipality have generated concrete impacts on the development of business units. The study also highlights the absence of changes in mentalities and discourses concerning responsibilities shared by both sexes and women’s rights in relation to free time.</text>

<text>This article is framed within the premises of oral history. Following the methodological problems and guidelines established by this perspective, it proposes an approach to the narratives of railway workers concerning the various historical processes linked to their company and to their participation in it. The objective is to determine the characteristics of the particular ways in which these workers remember and narrate their experience within the specific context of the province of Jujuy, with special emphasis on the weight of Peronism in their memories.
Their memories are examined in relation to the nationalization of the railways and the establishment of strategies strongly oriented toward workers’ welfare; the transformation of the relationship between the State, the labor force, and capital during the subsequent military dictatorships; and the privatization of railway services.
These policies left a strong imprint on railway workers as a whole. The experiences of prosperity during the years of first Peronism, the military governments that followed, and the removal of the railways from state control remained “engraved” in their memory in particular ways, on the basis of their specific historical experience as railway workers.</text>

<text>The inhabitants of the Perico community, like those of the province of Jujuy in general, witnessed a railway reality that resulted from the conjunction of national policies applied to the sector, the imprint of historical processes in the region, and the particular features of these spaces.
Although for more than one contemporary observer the outcome of the early 1990s appeared as a “foretold death”, many people, over the years, placed their hopes in change and directed their efforts toward identifying obstacles and assessing the scope of the problem, seeking receptiveness in public opinion and/or in governmental spheres.
On the basis of both the identification of the voices of individual and collective social actors recorded in written sources—official reports and speeches, newspapers and magazines, and petitions submitted to public authorities by civil society—and the recovery of fragments of “railway memory” that persist among some inhabitants of the Jujuy locality of “Ciudad Perico”, this article proposes an approach to the impact of railway policies on specific regional socioeconomic realities and to the representations woven around the situation of the railway in the northern province.
The temporal framework extends from the years prior to the emergence of Peronism—still marked by the aftermath of the world economic crisis—to the end of the 1980s, the period preceding the unrestricted installation of neoliberalism in the political and economic horizon of a large part of the leadership throughout the country. This process put an end to any expectation of recovery and support for railway transport.</text>

<text>This article proposes an approach to the effects of the dismantling of a large part of railway services in the province of Jujuy, situating this process within its historical development and addressing its impact, with particular emphasis on freight transport.
The methodology used to evaluate this impact is that of social savings, based on a counterfactual approach. Primary data obtained from railway archives and secondary data from bibliographic sources are used.
This work forms part of a larger research project whose initial hypothesis attributes most of the negative socioeconomic effects related to the virtual disappearance of the railway in Jujuy to the privatization and dismantling process of the 1990s.
The information collected revealed a picture different from what had been expected: privatization during the Menem era was nothing more than the corollary of a long process of deterioration, with an important turning point in the 1960s and roots in even earlier periods.
Within this framework, the quantitative approach carried out shows that, even with the historical deterioration suffered and the poor conditions under which the service is provided, the railway could represent savings in terms of output in comparison with road freight transport.</text>

<text>This paper seeks to contribute to the analysis of the process of spatialization of class struggle; that is, the marks left on physical space by the currently hegemonic tendency toward the privatization of public spaces and the symbolic constructions produced to signify that process.
To this end, I propose to analyze the conflict that unfolded around the lands of the former General San Martín Railway Station in Mendoza between 2006 and 2008. Closed during the 1990s as part of the neoliberal policies implemented in our country, these lands are currently the object of new privatization projects, among which a real estate venture led by the Corporación Antiguo Puerto Madero stands out. Faced with this new privatizing attempt, three social organizations initiated a process of resistance and struggle in defense of these lands as public space. Specifically, the article pays special attention to the dispute that opens up among the different meanings constructed around the image of the station and the city.
The paper points out that this semantic dispute between opposing meanings refers, on the one hand, to its historical inscription: the rearticulations of meaning produced among past, present, and future. On the other hand, it emphasizes that what is at stake is not a problem of pure “signification”, but rather one that refers to the density of experience and to the importance that the dimension of practices acquires in the subjectivity of the subjects.
The methodology employed corresponds to a qualitative analysis strategy: participant observation, in-depth interviews, and secondary sources.</text>

<text>Memory and historical studies concerning the Peronist government of Miguel Ragone (1973–1974) lead us back to a “nationalist” and “popular” political project. Within this framework, various expropriation initiatives may be situated, such as the one concerning the Unchimé deposit/Altos Hornos Güemes, or the one that expropriated assets and shares of the Arenales meat-packing plant.
These policies could be interpreted as a product of the “climate of the time” and of the debates on the “socialist path” and “national socialism”. Although several studies have been carried out from this perspective, it is necessary to investigate the historical process with greater precision. In this research, we propose to explain the expropriation policy of Salta’s Peronist government within the framework of a broader historical cycle that began in the 1960s and gave meaning to these expropriation policies. On the other hand, we seek to reconstruct the trajectories of the companies subject to expropriation in order to observe the ways in which different interests were articulated or came into tension.
The long-term study and the analysis of judicial, journalistic, and governmental sources will make it possible to observe that the expropriation policy during Ragone’s government was, rather, the result of a set of decisions and interests that preceded the Peronist government and were resignified under it according to a new political program. In this program, the State undertook the task of regulating productive activity without restricting the participation of private capital, attempting to return to the old alliance among the State, the national bourgeoisie, and the labor movement, without greater revolutionary pretensions.</text>

<text>Within the framework of the study of ceramic manufacturing chaînes opératoires in two sectors of the Jujuy Puna, for late pre-Hispanic and colonial times, this paper presents evidence related to the modeling stage. Observations were carried out on fragmentary material from excavations and surface collections, as well as on collection pieces.
Marks and traces of modeling were recorded on these materials, and observations were made with a binocular magnifying glass on the orientation of inclusions, contrasting the information obtained with the available archaeological literature on the subject. Evidence of modeling by superposition of clay coils was recorded to a greater extent, followed by evidence of manual stretching of the paste and, to a lesser extent, evidence of wheel throwing.
In some cases, construction by parts or stages was recorded in closed vessels. The orientation of inclusions observed with a binocular magnifying glass did not prove to be an informative attribute. These techniques were used to model pieces with both open and closed morphologies, and a persistence over time of these aspects of the ceramic chaîne opératoire can be observed.</text>

Del análisis realizado surge que: es voluntad de las autoridades llevar adelante la capacitación sistematizada de los docentes para habilitar la modalidad de enseñanza Blended-Learning; en general, existe una actitud mediamente favorable de los profesores respecto a la utilización y la practicidad de las aulas virtuales como parte del proceso educativo y, los estudiantes presentan características de nativos digitales, aunque con algunas restricciones respecto al acceso a la tecnología digital y a Internet.ABSTRACTThis article reports the analysis carried out with regard to the first advances performed within the framework of a research project with the aim of determining if at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, National University of Jujuy, whether it is feasible and suitable to implement virtual classrooms in the subjects that are part of the career syllabus in order to develop the educational process in the Blended- Learning mode. The partial results obtained, demanded the exploration, description, explanation and understanding of the existing conditions within the aforementioned context, considering the Faculty, professors and students as categories of analysis. The survey of quantitative and qualitative data, its organization and interpretation by means of the statistical (descriptive, inferential, parametric and non- parametric) as well as qualitative analysis, enabled to have an initial diagnose about the possibilities of considering Information and Communication Technologies as part of the educational innovation process which has to be considered nowadays so as to give answers to the resulting conceptual technology of learning. Having performed the analysis it can be stated that: it is the authorities’ will to carry on the professors’ systematic training in order to set up the Blended- Learning teaching.

<text>ABSTRACTThrough a case study from an interpretative perspective, we look at an innovative experience of teaching of General Physics (Physical Education Workshop, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina) as space for training and professional development of university professors. We initially characterized the experience as a community of educational practices, through the analysis of their ways to build and maintain the mutual commitment; the definition and redefinition of its joint enterprise; and some elements of their shared repertoire (which are the dimensions that give coherence to a community of practice). On the basis of this characterization, we define it also as a community of learning, i.e. one that implies the commitment to collaboration in practice and the careful design of the social infrastructures that reinforce learning. The analysis of the processes of negotiation of meaning occurring there (in its double aspect of participatory processes in their practices and reification of them), allowed us to identify the circumstances, processes and knowledge put at stake for the formation of its new members. We characterize the teacher training in the Physical Education Workshop, from different perspectives and dimensions of analysis, as an intentional, heterogeneous, plural and multiple process instituted, mainly through the participation in its innovative University teaching practices. We thus see how this experience offers to its teaching novice specific mechanisms of inclusion in the community, delineates trajectories of participation and allows to build diverse educational identities. Keywords: Community, Practice, University teaching, Innovation.</text>

De esta manera se visualizó cómo esta experiencia ofrece a sus docentes noveles mecanismos específicos de inclusión en la comunidad, delinea trayectorias de participación y permite construir identidades docentes diversas.ABSTRACTThrough a case study from an interpretative perspective, we look at an innovative experience of teaching of General Physics (Physical Education Workshop, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Argentina) as space for training and professional development of university professors. </text>
