<text>“Beyond the Santa Bárbara mountains with the San Francisco river on its eastern side, there is a last guard position of the Andes mountain range towards the powerful dry virgin forest”. Thus Nordenskiöld described the SubAndean region of Jujuy in 1902, when he revealed the results of the first archaeological investigations in the San Francisco Valley, carried out by him and Boman, bothmembers of the so-called Swedish expedition. These explorations gave birth to a series of debates about the origin and antiquity of the groups that had occupied the eastern part of Jujuy in prehispanic times, and the first hypotheses about the topic were formulated then. After these pioneer works, there were several scientists interested in the area, fact that generated noticeable advances on the investigations. On this specific work, the contributions of the first explorers are revised and compared to new data and new hypotheses about the type of life these prehispanic groups had and which gave a start to the archaeological registry know so far for this area.</text>

Since shortly before the beginning of WWII and for half a century, the fluency of communications between archaeologists of both countries was interrupted. It was not until 1988, that the tradition once initiated by Nordenskld was revived through actions taken by the University of Gotemburgh and Stocolm (Sweden) and by archaeologist of the National University of Tucuman. The results of this bi-national experience as well the agreement between the universities of Gotemburgh and the National University of Tucuman are analyzed; the basis of which were:a) Foreign institutions that have an interest in working in our country must abide by existing legal regulations which state, as touching Tucuman, that any archaeological patrimony is property of the Province.b) The participation of foreign institutions must leave as a result for the region where works were conducted, not only new knowledge at a scientific research level, but an effective contribution as related to the development of local human resources.
c) All field documentation of any kind (notes, records, photographs, film, plans, etc.) constitute an inseparable part of the archaeological patrimony and it must be archived where other materials are kept. The experience was highly positive, as the terms agreed upon were fully observed and beneficial results for both sides were achieved without conflict.</text>

That is why their identity is shown through them. If we assume that image systems relate people to their environment and consequently they can affect their behavior. We will have to take into consideration this connection when we plan our research, since in the world of relations we have with "other"; they depended on a great extentd on our object of study or consider that this object of study still has symbolic relations with the people that live in this region? When we are hired to work, do we just do our technical work or do we try to understand and interpret these relationships?Since the significant places depend on sociocultural variables: significant uses, names, associations and preferences, as well as a visual and perspective structure. How do archeologists prepare ourselves to do field work? Our training permits us to see the complex fabric of interaction that rises from our contact with each other and "others".Up to what extent are we conscious that our work can affect not only a tangible patrimony of different communities but also intangible patrimony?

<text>The present paper makes reference to the studies carried out by Eric von Rosen, as a member of the Swedish Expedition to Chaco-Cordillera, at the Choroti settlement situated near Caiza (Bolivia). The importance of that contribution to anthropologic knowledge of von Rosen an almost unknown group at the time is mighlighted. Subsequent papers are mentioned, mainly the current somathologic ones. The most recent investigations on genetic characters analysis for the interpretation of the distribution of traits frequencies in relation to other native South American populations are olso cited.
The main Choroti bioanthropologic characteristics, both from somathology and serology are summarized. The slight intrapopulation variability showed by autosomic micro-satellites and X chromosome is attributed to genetic drift mechanisms occurred in the past since nowadays the population is balanced.</text>

Next to the city of La Rioja he identified a succession of located sites along the valley of the Río de los Sauces and he did the mapping of the site “Pucara de los Sauces” located 12 kilometres to the west of the capital city, assigning the site a net defensive function based on their strategic geographical position and their architectural characteristics. Also, he mentioned the existence of other two sites linked to Pucara de los Sauces, which he considered as “advanced fortresses of the Pucara.”The objective of this paper is to present a synthesis of the information of latter researches done after are carried out by Eric Boman and to actualize the spatial information of the Pucara de los Sauces site. The methodology employed comprised prospectings and new planimetric reports that gave the identification of an alignment of circular structures located towards the northwest of the Pucará as well as other units formed by enclosures and structures related to agricultural activities. The presence of this pattern, structures related to storage activities, in a context whose temporary location could extend from the Formative period up to historical period later on, constitutes an important contribution to the understanding of the socioeconomic development of these societies.</text>

<text>An alternative approach is presented to the texts written by Eric Boman and Eric von Rosen, who traveled and conducted research through east Puna de Atacama and Puna de Jujuy (today province of Jujuy, Argentina) between 1901 and 1903. I argue that taking on account open or elusive narratives about the concrete forms through which travelers and Indians related each other, it is possible to approach to relationships between nation-state and Indian societies, considering the ethnographic relationship as a part of them. For the sake of that approach, I have been able to watch the living space of social relationships where Indian peasants, military forces and scientific missions coexisted in conflict, as to inquire into that environment as a social life area, not just as an“anthropological laboratory”.
Scientific missions took place during a prevailing military stage of Argentinean nation-state expansion. The state had some institutional presence there, but a very scanty material and ideological one. In that context, I show that proceedings followed in order to procure their scientific aims and to fulfill their practical needs in the field were, simultaneously, practices of nation-state domination over Indian society. At the same time, Indian reactions in front of that foreigners presence and their interaction proposals were inscribed as practices of unsubmissiveness against nation-state power.
This article takes a distance both politically and scientifically from any pretended historical relativism position about the domination practices of researchers. I argue that current subaltern position of Indian descendants in Jujuy (including those who met Boman and von Rosen) is reformulated in a dim way through the lack of social and scientific condemnation to the actors who were co-responsible for that position.</text>
