<text>The educational reform and its implementation through the Federal Education Law extended the teaching of philosophy in comparison with the previous system. In the former curriculum, philosophy was present only in the baccalaureate track, with somewhat greater space in the baccalaureate with a teacher-training orientation; commercial and industrial schools did not include such studies.
In the Basic Common Contents formulated by the national authorities for the entire Argentine educational system, a broad space is devoted to philosophical knowledge. This is evident both in Ethical and Citizenship Education, present from EGB through the completion of secondary studies, and in Philosophy and Philosophical Issues in the Polimodal level, among other contributions provided by the EDI.
Given this panorama, an improvement in the teaching of philosophy at the secondary level might have been expected. However, it is reasonable to think that philosophical teaching still suffers from the same difficulties affecting secondary education in general: lack of preparation for university entrance, for insertion into the world of work, and for life in relation with others.
At present, both in general and in Tucumán in particular, there is growing interest in the teaching of this discipline in EGB through philosophy with children and through participation in workshops and seminars with adolescents. An experience carried out in our province shows this tendency with encouraging results.
In this paper, we propose to analyze the concepts, strategies, and procedures of philosophy for/with children that may prove effective for the teaching and learning of philosophy in the specific spaces of EGB 3 and the Polimodal level within our educational system. To this end, we refer to theoretical contributions by specialists and to the analysis of some relevant experiences in this field.</text>

<text>This paper presents the outcome of the implementation of one of the activities planned within the framework of the research project “Evaluation for Understanding in the Mathematics Area, Faculty of Economic Sciences, National University of Jujuy”, approved and funded by that institution. In this project, evaluation is conceived “as a constant process of verifying learning that makes it possible to introduce adjustments in the ways of teaching and learning” (Santos Guerra, 2005). In practice, however, this theoretical position constitutes a real challenge when seeking to promote meaningful learning among students.
This problem becomes more pronounced in the context of state-run public universities during the first two years of study. One possible cause of this difficulty is the large number of students attending face-to-face classes and the limited number of teachers assigned to guide the educational process.
What alternatives, then, emerge in this context? It is essential to promote pedagogical methods aimed at enabling students to self-regulate their own evaluation. The use of digital tools to promote activities that help monitor and stimulate learning, generate opportunities for the analysis of correct answers and errors, and allow continuous feedback on students’ progress constitutes a valid option within the framework of real accessibility currently available to the vast majority of students.
It is estimated that the implementation of this evaluation modality in the subjects Algebra and Analytic Geometry and Mathematical Analysis at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the National University of Jujuy will contribute to the improvement of educational practices.</text>

<text>This paper presents a synthesis, analysis, and interpretation of the perceptions of department heads at the University of Santiago de Compostela regarding the way student assessment is understood and carried out.
From an interpretive-ethnographic approach, we believe that identifying the aspects in which the perceptions of department heads from different areas of knowledge coincide may offer clues for recognizing some of the cultural keys present in student assessment. At the same time, it provides valuable information on some of its strengths and weaknesses, which should be taken into account in any attempt to improve the quality of university teaching.</text>

<text>The research project “University Student Attrition: The Incidence of Endogenous and Exogenous Factors in the Academic-Curricular Process” was designed to produce specific and relevant information related to the problem of student attrition at the National University of Santiago del Estero. Its purpose was to provide basic input for decision-making at both the institutional management and academic-curricular management levels, aimed at improving educational quality.
In order to investigate factors exogenous to the academic-curricular process, information on students’ sociodemographic and cultural characteristics was collected through surveys. For the analysis of endogenous factors, documentary sources were consulted and semi-structured interviews were conducted, allowing us to examine the representations of students, parents, and teachers regarding “school failure”.
The analysis and interpretation of the representations of these three groups of actors reveal partial perspectives. On the one hand, there appears to be a naturalization of the problem, which evidences an absence of critical reasoning and the consequent denial of the possibility of solving it. On the other hand, responsibility for the deficits of incoming students is attributed to the low educational quality of the previous level, thereby overlooking the university’s co-responsibility and disregarding the impact of these deficits on the actual quality of education. Likewise, when teachers recognize this impact, they place responsibility for the solution at the institutional level, as both a direct and abstract referent.
It is therefore possible to ask to what extent the educational system, institutional educational management, and the actors themselves provide the conditions for producing and/or strengthening an attitude that, based on recognition of the problem, commits itself to integrating theoretical and empirical analyses with real efforts to achieve effective progress in reducing student attrition rates.</text>

<text>This article presents part of the results obtained from the research underlying the doctoral thesis “Students’ Attitudes toward the University as an Indicator of Quality”, defended in 2007.
This extensive study offers a detailed analysis of the role of the university as a socializing agent in the process through which students’ attitudes are formed, through the information it conveys about university life.
The sample consisted of 554 students in the final years of 12 degree programs currently offered at the University of Santiago de Compostela. Information was collected through the administration of a questionnaire comprising 327 items addressing 55 dimensions, which provide a comprehensive picture of the university institution as a context of training and socialization.
The results of the research reveal the existence of a set of tendencies that define young university students within the framework of contemporary society, as well as the role of the university as an educational and socializing institution in the development of these tendencies. Thus, the aim of this paper is to invite readers to reflect on two questions: what are the beliefs, values, and attitudes of university students within and toward the university? And what is the role of the university as a socializing agent through the information it conveys?</text>

<text>In times such as those in which we live, when historical innovations are masked or distorted while, at the same time, what has already been instituted is presented to us as new, reflection on historical change becomes urgent and necessary. Carlos Astrada, an Argentine thinker, addressed this problem in numerous texts, a problem of great significance for human existence and of strong presence in our everyday life.
This paper seeks to take up his thought again through an interpretive reading of writings belonging to different periods of his production, which are placed in relation to contemporary debates concerning: i) the conception of history, ii) the objective of history, and iii) the end of history.
The author’s dialectical worldview is emphasized, a position that enables him to criticize and, at the same time, prevents him from falling into either teleological progressivism or fatalism. For Astrada, there is neither a constant advance toward an ultimate goal of history nor a necessary direction regulated by mechanical determinism. The form of historical movement implies rupture and connection, differentiation and identity, advance and retreat, and its course breaks with the homogeneous progression of linearity.
In his writings, we can also find an avant la lettre critique of the postmodernist thesis of the “end of history”. This challenge follows a theoretical path, seeking to unmask the distortions introduced by interpreters of Hegelian thought, and an empirical path, contributing by showing the undeniable presence of economic, political, and social movements that contradict a supposed closure of history.</text>

<text>This paper explores the contributions of J. S. Mill and T. H. Marshall to the definition of the profiles of contemporary citizenship. To this end, it analyzes the features that characterize the pairs republican citizenship / liberal citizenship and direct democracy / representative democracy. It then focuses on Mill’s Considerations on Representative Government and Marshall’s Citizenship and Social Class.
The starting point for examining the thought of both authors in relation to these works is the affinity that can be observed in their shared concern with articulating an idea of citizenship with representative forms of government. In the analysis of Considerations on Representative Government, special attention is given to the way in which Mill manages to transpose a conception of citizenship close to ancient citizenship into the context of representative government.
With regard to Marshall’s Citizenship and Social Class, the paper examines his construction of citizenship as a manifestation of equality in the face of the inequality derived from social class difference within modern capitalist societies.
The paper invites us to consider that Marshallian citizenship, even though it belongs to the tradition of liberal citizenship, with its emphasis on equality, acts as a basic substrate for the possibility of developing republican citizenship. This does not imply ignoring the fact that both models of citizenship respond to completely different principles, values, and traditions.</text>

<text>This paper seeks to address the following problem: is it possible to affirm, in the social sphere, the existence of real entities with “independent” subsistence, prior to any theoretical model that attempts to represent them? The aim of this research is to apply Hacking’s concept of “realism about entities” to the field of the social sciences, in order to elucidate the nature of the theoretical entities usually postulated by sociological theories and to determine whether at least some of them subsist across different theoretical approaches, even in opposed or incompatible theories. If this were the case, we might consider that they possess a certain kind of per se existence, that is, an existence prior to and independent of any human cognitive approach. If so, it is necessary to ask in what sense we can postulate the real existence of such “entities”.
As regards the methodological approach, I will begin with a semantic clarification of the concept of phenomenon as understood by Hacking, in order to apply it to the social sphere. In a second stage, I will analyze what kind of social phenomena can be considered “real”. To this end, I will propose a possible classification of the various meanings that the term “reality” may acquire in this context.
I will take Popper’s metaphor of the “three worlds” and apply it partially to three possible senses of reality: the first refers to the natural laws and circumstances that would make the existence of the social world possible a priori; the second is linked to the reality of mental states; and the third is related to the cultural products resulting from the physical and mental intervention of human beings upon nature. Once externalized, these products acquire a gravity of their own, which in turn exerts feedback on the natural environment and on individual consciousnesses.</text>

<text>This paper proposes some elements for the interpretation of Pierre Bourdieu’s sociology by exploring the folds of the readers and readings of his work in France and in the United States. It seeks to situate these readings within some of the conditions in which they were produced and in which readers themselves were positioned, linking certain meanings attributed to Bourdieu’s texts with these operations of reading, which are inseparably intellectual and affective.
Thus, both involvement in a field in which Bourdieu held a position and adopted particularly conflictive position-takings, and the frequently ignored distance from the other’s intellectual context, viewed from a dominant position, conspire in each case against the understanding of an innovative sociological work.</text>

This paper seeks to investigate, among these thoughts and actions, their behavior and projection in literature, philosophy, and art itself, within the context of the problem of identity.
Different sources have been selected, including writings, manifestos, essays, memoirs, and interviews, as part of a recourse to the transdisciplinarity required by the cultural complexity of the phenomenon.
This paper forms part of a broader, already accredited research project, involving teams made up of researchers from different social disciplines and developed within the framework of a university chair. To the same end, exchanges are being carried out with researchers from Argentine, Brazilian, and Mercosur universities.</text>

<text>Human will is essentially and contingently free, according to the perspective of the medieval philosopher Duns Scotus. In Scotist metaphysics, it is possible to speak of a contingent moral order, since its root is the divine will, which operates with complete freedom. Moreover, since the divine will freely produces creatures, creatures were not created within an order of necessity and are therefore capable of acting freely, giving rise to infinite configurations of possible realities. In this sense, my free will can choose what to do and what not to do, choosing between one possibility and its opposite.
The aim of this paper is therefore to examine, from the perspective of Duns Scotus’s metaphysics, how human action contains within itself the contingency proper to a possibility that has already been effectively realized. At the same time, it seeks to show that the cause of contingency in the world originates in the free operation of the first uncaused efficient cause, namely God.</text>

<text>In the prologue to Las Fuerzas Morales, José Ingenieros states that this book completes the panoramic vision of a functional ethics. El hombre mediocre is a critique of morality; Hacia una moral sin dogmas, a theory of morality; and Las fuerzas morales, a deontology of morality. In all of them, the concept of an ethical idealism grounded in social experience prevails, clearly distinct from the deceptive idealisms of old metaphysics.
Ingenieros maintains that the man who treasures these forces acquires moral value: an upright sense of duty that conditions his dignity. He thinks as he must, speaks as he feels, and acts as he wills. He neither pursues rewards nor is intimidated by misfortunes. He receives adversity with serenity and victory with prudence. He accepts responsibility for his own mistakes and refuses complicity in the errors of others. Only moral courage can sustain those who stake their lives for their homeland or their doctrine, rising to heroism. Nothing is less like it than the occasional recklessness of the braggart or the praetorian, who face sterile risks out of vanity or for pay. An hour of episodic bravery is not equivalent to the courage of Socrates, Christ, or Spinoza: a constant convergence of thought and action, and a clear condemnation of the unhealthy superstitions of the past.
The purpose of this contribution is, in part, to draw some comparisons with the present of our nation and to attempt to show whether or not time has proved Ingenieros right. It also seeks to recover the thought of a major Argentine thinker, now stored away and forgotten in almost all the libraries of our country.</text>

<text>This paper addresses a classical problem in cognitive psychology: the problem of individuation. It shows the difficulties involved in reconciling methodological individualism with individuation by virtue of intentional properties. On the one hand, it evaluates the constraints of individualism; on the other, it examines the scope of semantic content for the individuation of mental states. Finally, it considers Fodor’s non-reductionist strategy for the “special” sciences.
The paper concludes that, in principle, there do not seem to be any objections to the individuation of mental states by virtue of intentional properties.</text>

<text>This work began to take shape in early 1992, arising from an interest in investigating social ideas among preschool-aged children. Based on the theory of genetic psychology, an exploratory study was undertaken on the notion of family in these children.
In kindergarten, the family is presented as a unit, but we do not know what explanation this concept has for the child. We therefore set out to explore the child’s way of thinking about the family, analyzing the process through which this notion is formed.
The study was carried out as an integrative task between the courses General and Developmental Psychology and General Didactics, with the aim of creating spaces for student participation in research related to topics significant for their teaching practices. Thus, we acted as research coordinators, while our students from the teacher-training program at a private institute located in El Carmen served as observers.
Methodologically, we adopted the clinical-critical method. This method assumes that the experimenter formulates hypotheses about the reasons underlying the child’s thinking, posing questions and creating situations in order to test those hypotheses. It involves a “clinical subject”, that is, a subject determined by their own cognitive history and also conditioned by a sociocultural context.
Finally, this work concludes with a series of observations on the following issues: a) the use of a set of criteria for establishing kinship relations, such as sharing a roof, games, gatherings, physical characteristics, belonging, and other original criteria, which may appear simultaneously in relation to both conjugal and blood ties; b) authority relations within the family group are equitable; and c) the most prominent social function is that of support.
It remains to be asked whether these issues are linked to the historical moment of the family.</text>
