<text>We intend to present a progress report on Research Project No. 593 of the Research Council of the National University of Salta, “Theoretical Metatext in Contemporary Spanish Dramaturgy” (Antonio Buero Vallejo, Alfonso Sastre, José Sanchis Sinisterra). To this end, we will carry out a reading of the theoretical metatext inferred from Buero’s dramatic writing, recognized as historical theatre, focusing on two kinds of questions: 1) the configuration of Buero’s discursive model, paying special attention to genericity. In other words, we will establish the changes brought about when the historical episode (Un soñador para un pueblo) is modified into fantasy (Las meninas, El sueño de la razón, La detonación, etc.). 2) Relations between this model and the canons present in the Spanish discursive corpus (tragedy, farce, allegory, esperpento).
The analysis of the two intrametatextual axes and their comparison with the playwright’s explicit metatexts allows us to outline Buero Vallejo’s theory of historical theatre. In addition to this, and this fact is no less important than the previous one, the theory constitutes a valuable point of reference for the comparative study of the very broad spectrum of Latin American historical theatre.</text>

(Antonio Buero Vallejo, Alfonso Sastre, José Sanchis Sinisterra).

<text>Latin American theatre has often resorted to rewriting as a way of bearing witness to social reality. To this end, the classics of the past, as well as contemporary narrative texts, have become a valuable source for new dramatic and/or stage writings, as shown by numerous works produced by theatre groups such as El Galpón from Uruguay, La Candelaria and El Local from Colombia, Rajatabla from Venezuela, Teatro del Sol from Peru, and the Centro de Pesquisa Teatral from Brazil.
This paper, which is part of Project No. 312 of the Research Council of the National University of Salta, proposes a reading of Diálogo del rebusque, a rewriting of El buscón and other satirical, narrative, and poetic texts by Francisco de Quevedo.
Diálogo del rebusque is an illuminating text for reflecting on one aspect of the complex field of rewriting in contemporary Latin American theatre: the adaptation of “classics”. In order to address this issue, we formulate several hypotheses about the reasons for adapting texts that are temporally and culturally distant and apparently foreign and in which a predominantly playful attitude seems to prevail, with no evident connection to the social reality of their time.
The analysis of various discursive strategies involved in the transposition of the hypotext allows us to draw the following conclusion: just as in Quevedo’s writing the construction of reality does not proceed in a straight line, but rather along a circuitous path—as the mad scientist in El buscón would say—Diálogo del rebusque, by reintroducing the writing of a classic into new circuits of meaning, also constructs our reality obliquely, through circuitous paths.</text>

In the selected corpus, these tales are studied as discursive practices in which constitutive elements of the cosmology of Andean people are at stake. Thus, the analysis allows us to affirm that these tales express the crisis in the relationship between Andean people and the new social structure imposed by the conquest.
The social practice that generates meaning in these tales is related to the regulation of work. The tale reveals the attitude of Andean people, who value ways of life of ancestral origin.</text>

<text>In the 1960s, a change took place in the literature of Argentina’s interior. Costumbrista aesthetics moved beyond picturesque regionalism and belatedly incorporated the linguistic concerns of the avant-garde. This change gradually appeared in short fiction from Tucumán.
The aim of this paper is to demonstrate, through the analysis of discursive strategies arising from the textual subject, as well as the circumstances of enunciation and production, that the short fiction of the Tucumán writer Ramón Alberto Pérez is in a transitional stage. This can be explained by two main reasons.
First, the writer under study leaves behind traditional picturesque regionalism and turns toward deeper, more existential themes, in keeping with his pessimistic conception of the world. He is obsessively concerned with human solitude and lack of communication.
Second, his writing gradually becomes self-conscious, although it does not become fully metadiscursive and critical, as is characteristic of the Latin American avant-garde after the Boom. Rather, it emerges as the product of a distressing reality.</text>

<text>This paper, framed within the general field of Gender Studies, offers a reading of Ars Amatoria, the poem by Publius Ovidius Naso, or Ovid, from the first century BC. The analysis draws on the contributions of Sociocriticism and approaches the text through the methodology of the Semiotics of Statements.
For the purposes of the analysis carried out in these pages, Sociocriticism provides the fundamental theoretical approach. This field seeks to discover how the social dimension is inscribed in texts. In other words, its aim is to identify the forms of articulation between two systems: the textual system and the social system.
In this particular study, I seek to identify the ideologemes present in Ovid’s poem. To do so, I follow Edmond Cros’s concept of the ideologeme, which he defines as a “semiotic-ideological microsystem underlying a functional and meaningful unit of discourse”—the lexia. The components of this microsystem are semes and social values, which fluctuate according to historical circumstances.
Two hypotheses guide this work: the first is theoretical in nature, and the second is methodological. First, in Ovid’s Ars Amatoria, the words domina, which would normally refer to the “mistress” or Roman housewife, and virtus constitute ideologemes insofar as they function as sites of enunciation where new semantic contents and social values are generated and merged, thus establishing the historical and social coordinates of the text. Second, ideologemes can be identified by means of contextual definitions, an instrument developed by the Semiotics of Statements.
The methodology of the Semiotics of Statements provides a series of analytical operations that work on what is actually stated, making it possible to recover the meanings attributed to terms according to the material and positive context in which they appear. The conclusions reached in this study allow me to confirm that this methodology is suitable for identifying ideologemes.
The main contribution of this paper, therefore, lies in demonstrating the effectiveness of the analytical tools of the Semiotics of Statements for conducting research from a sociocritical perspective.</text>

<text>This paper set out to analyze the effects produced by television on the perception, interpretation, and cognition of students entering the Faculty of Humanities at the National University of Salta, Argentina. Interest in this issue arose from the difficulties shown by students in the course Idioma Nacional in recognizing and producing argumentative academic texts.
The study reached the following conclusion: there is a perverse dialectic. On the one hand, audiovisual texts shape forms of perception, interpretation, and cognition in students that come into conflict with those associated with the logosphere, or orality, and the graphosphere, or writing. On the other hand, the deconstruction of such audiovisual texts is indispensable, since they form part of our students’ encyclopedia. Paradoxically, this deconstructive reading requires competencies developed within the linguistic register.
We believe that the interaction between audiovisual and linguistic literacy could constitute an alternative pedagogical proposal for addressing this problem.</text>

<text>This paper studies the evolution of the use of abbreviations in five wills from Jujuy archives dating from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
The frequency of abbreviations recorded in our corpus of analysis, together with the limited bibliography available on the subject, led us to undertake this study. Its main objective is to observe the evolution of these forms by comparing the wills under analysis with current usage.
Methodologically, we have followed the classificatory system used by Millares Carlo for the paleographic study of medieval and Renaissance texts.
The comparison of the forms, taking into account the procedures used in the formation of abbreviations, makes it possible to classify them as follows: a) evolved forms; b) regressive forms; c) forms fallen into disuse; d) preserved forms; and e) vacillating forms.
Our conclusions suggest that the few rules of abbreviation existing in seventeenth-century written language may have been transmitted through oral tradition and that, in the following century, even though the Royal Spanish Academy had already regulated their use, abbreviation procedures continued to depend largely on the scribe’s cultural background.</text>

<text>Since the subject of enunciation is inscribed in language, and since language, as a social institution, may serve as an indicator of a speaker’s belonging to a particular historical community, this paper studies attitudes toward the mother tongue among Bolivian bilingual speakers of Quechua and Spanish residing in the capital city of the province of Jujuy, on the border with the Republic of Bolivia.
The corpus of analysis was obtained through participant observation techniques and recorded interviews with Bolivian speakers of Quechua and Spanish living in a neighborhood of the provincial capital. The identification and subsequent classification of our informants’ linguistic attitudes were carried out through the application of sociolinguistic methodology and a multiple-component framework, including cognitive, affective, and behavioral components.
The results obtained reveal three types of attitudes: positive, which is the majority attitude; negative; and insecurity, in decreasing order. These attitudes are generally associated with ethnicity as an identity marker.
The conclusions of this study open a space for reflection on the continuing relevance of Quechua-Spanish bilingualism among Bolivians residing in Jujuy.</text>
