ESPACIALIZACIÓN Y PERTENENCIA EN ANTOFALLA, UN OASIS EN LA PUNA DE ATACAMA(1)

SPATIALIZATION AND BELONGING IN ANTOFALLA, AN OASIS IN PUNA DE ATACAMA

Este trabajo estudia los procesos de espacialización social mediante los cuales los pobladores de Antofalla producen el paisaje en sus relaciones sociales y, a su vez, cómo dicho espacio social - en tanto producción en la que se inscriben relaciones sociales de generaciones actuales y pasadas - reproduce, mediatiza y transforma dichas relaciones. El objetivo es comprender cuál es el criterio de asignación de la pertenencia, acceso y uso de determinadas áreas a cierto sujeto social y no a otros. Para ello, analizamos las pautas culturales de pertenencia que se inscriben en el paisaje del área de Antofalla, señalando su íntima relación tanto con las relaciones domésticas de parentesco (aspectos sociopolíticos) como con los de apropiación de los recursos locales (aspectos económicos).Argumentamos que los procesos de espacialización constituyen también procesos de domesticación en los que la relación entre el que domestica y el que es domesticado implica sentimientos de identificación a través de los cuales se naturaliza la pertenencia y la diferenciación sociocultural. Este sentimiento de pertenencia constituye una articulación de sentidos sociales re-significados que guían la interacción tanto con otros sujetos sociales (relaciones sociales de parentesco domésticas y supra-domésticas) como con el espacio social/paisaje (uso y apropiación de los recursos naturales). También, enfocamos la relación entre la hegemonía cultural y el paisaje, analizando las formas en que las pautas culturales de pertenencia que se inscriben en el paisaje son reificadas y vividas como naturales desde el sentido común.Para estudiar las pautas culturales de pertenencia re-inscriptas en el espacio social y sus relaciones con los criterios de parentesco y propiedad de los recursos de los antofalleños analizaremos tanto sus argumentaciones discursivas producidas en contexto de entrevistas como el registro de la observación participante de sus prácticas cotidianas. El trabajo de campo en el que se construyeron estos datos se realizó entre Noviembre de 1996 y Noviembre de 1997.

This paper studies the social spacialization processes through which the people of Antofalla produce social space in their sociocultural interaction and the way in which landscape reproduces, mediates and transforms these relations, since it is a social product in which present and past social relations are inscribed. The aim of this study is to understand the rules that assign ownership, acces and use of certain areas to certain social subjects. Thus, we analyze the cultural patterns of ownershipinscribed in the lanscape of Antofalla area, marking their straight relation both with kinship domestic relations and with the appropiation of local resources.We argue that spatialization processes are, at the same time, domestication process in which the relationship between those who domesticate and those who are domesticated implies certain feeling of identification by the means of which social belonging and differantiation is naturalized. This feeling of belonging articulates resignified social meanings that guide sociocultural interaction related either to people (domestic and supra-domestic kinship social relations) and to landscape (use and appropiationof natural resources). We also focus on the relation between cultural hegemony and landscape, remarking the way in which cultural patterns of belonging inscribed in landscape are naturalized by common sense.We analyze the discoursive argumentations produced in interviews contexts and the registers of participant observation of the everyday practices of the people of Antofalla. These data were constructed during the fieldwork realized beteen November 1996 and November 1997.
