ANÁLISIS DEL ESPACIO DOMÉSTICO Y PÚBLICO. SECTOR OCCIDENTAL DEL PUKARA DE VOLCÁN (JUJUY-ARGENTINA)

ANALYSIS OF THE DOMESTIC AND PUBLIC SPACES OF THE WESTERN AREA OF PUKARA DE VOLCÁN

Presentamos el análisis espacial del sector occidental del Pukara de Volcán, en base a la excavación de tres recintos. Los mismos están asociados a un gran montículo que incluye una tumba colectiva y está emplazado en un amplio espacio abierto, ubicado al Oeste del conglomerado habitacional y separado del mismo por un muro «quebrado» que separa o integra estos sectores. Dentro de este espacio diferencial se encuentran asimismo emplazadas estructuras funerarias dispersas.Los recintos excavados TUM1-R1, TUM1-R2 y TUM1-R5, están ubicados cercanos al montículo. TUM1-R1 se halla próximo al borde del cono volcado hacia el Norte, en un área marginal al núcleo. TUM1-R2 y TUM1-R5 están ubicados hacia el Este del montículo, donde se inicia el área densamente ocupada. Estos recintos presentan diferencias en las técnicas constructivas y en los contextos recuperados.Nuestro análisis se orienta a interpretar la organización y los distintos usos de este espacio, que muestra, en una superfi cie restringida, diferencias claras con respecto a su estructuración interna y también respecto a los otros sectores que se identifi can en el espacio construido del Pukara de Volcán. Considerando que las concepciones de una sociedad se plasman en la forma en que la misma construye su espacio, procuramos interpretar esta particular confi guración espacial desde distintas categorías de análisis, referidas al espacio doméstico, público, ritual y simbólico. Los indicadores usados son: estructuración interna de los recintos; función; densidad de ocupación; diferenciación constructiva; presencia de arquitectura pública; concentración o segregación espacial; áreas de participación comunitaria o restringida; presencia de estructuras de sectorización y vías de circulación internas y externas.

This piece of research is based on an special analysis of the western sector of Volcan Pukara, the piece of research was bases on an excavation of the enclosures. They are associated with a great mound that includes a collective burial site lying in a wide open space, situated to the west of the area and separated from it by a broken wall that integrate these sectors. Inside this differential space scattered burials are found lying there. The excavated enclosures TUM1–R1, TUM 1-R2 and TUM 1-R5 are situated near the mound. Tum1-R1 is proximal to the edge of the cone overturned northwards, in an area marginal to the nucleus. Tum1-R2 and Tum1-R5 are situated to the East of the mound were the densely populated area starts. These enclosures present different building technich in the recovered contexts. Our analysis is oriented to interpret the organization and different uses of this space that has marked differences in a restricted area, marked differences with regard to internal structuring and with regard to other sectors in the space that was built in Volcan´s Pukara. Society’s conceptions are constructed in the same way its space is constructed.  Trying to interpret this special spacial confi guration from different categories of analyses referred to domestic and public space, ritual as well as symbolic space. The indicators used are internal structuring of the enclosures, function and density of occupation, fuilding differences if there is public architecture, special concentration or segregation, as well as areas of participation which with were communal or restricted, sectorization structures and ways of external an internal circulation.
