LAS PINTURAS PREHISPANAS DEL AREA DE TALTAL ANÁLISIS DESCRIPTIVO E INTERPRETATIVO
PRE HISPANIC PAINTING OF TALTAL, DESCRIPTIVE AND INTERPRETATIVE ANALYSIS
Materia
Taltal is located in the desertic southern coast of the Region of Antofagasta, Chile. The Prehispanic paintings from this area are about 1000 years old, and correspond to collecting communities as well as hunting and fishing communities. Their principal feature is to represent land and marine animals as well as humans on rafts made of sea wolfs skin, generally in a hunting attitude of greatmarine preys such as cetacean, sea wolves, sword fishes, etc. The paintings were done with natural pigments with a basis from iron oxide mixed with cactus resin. Our comparative analysis is referred to The Medano cliff, the cliff of San Ramón and the coast is the third sub area analyzed and it corresponds to our recent investigations in sites such as Tierra del Moro, Loreto, Punta de Plata and Miguel Díaz. The interpretative analysis of the paintings is done basically from the presence of and absence of diverse images represented, both from marine animals as well as land animals with cultural features and also scenes representing daily life.
