The All Souls’ Day Ritual as a Form of Social Communication: “The Little Souls Are Coming; Let Us Wait for the Sign; Let Us Prepare Some Food, Hungry They Will Arrive”

El ritual del Día de las Almas como una forma de comunicación social: «Ya vienen las almitas, esperemos la señal, preparemos comidita con hambre han de llegar»

This article presents an analysis of the All Souls’ Day ritual, a cultural phenomenon belonging to the peoples of Andean origin in Northwestern Argentina. To this end, I observed how the Ramos family performs the ritual in the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a locality situated in the north of the province of Jujuy. Based on the recovery of narratives from the members of this family and on theoretical proposals by different authors, I arrived at a preliminary interpretation of this phenomenon.

El presente artículo es un análisis acerca del ritual del Día de las Almas que corresponde a un fenómeno cultural perteneciente a los pueblos de raíz andina del noroeste argentino. Para ello, se observó cómo realiza el ritual la familia Ramos en la Quebrada de Humahuaca, localidad situada al norte de la provincia de Jujuy, y a partir de la recuperación de relatos de los integrantes de esta familia y propuestas teóricas de distintos autores, se llegó a una interpretación preliminar de este fenómeno.
