Descripción

The rapid transposition of categories from linguistics and literary theory to the analysis of other disciplines was one of the main reasons why the semiological project was questioned.
In the case of architecture, the main objection lay in the preeminence attributed to the specific problems of verbal language. This distorted the place that traditional graphic languages—Perspective and Monge—had held throughout history as proper instruments for accounting for architectural practice.
In order to reach an agreement on certain categories of the architectural, the question of its specificity arises, together with the need to identify a constant element: architectonicity. This may be defined, a priori, as a particular mode of formal transformation of built habitable space. It is a distinctive feature, but one subject to the fluctuations of the aesthetics of a given period and to the pragmatic perspective enabled in each historical moment.
Thus, architecture will be that which can be expressed through some socially accepted language, whether verbal or graphic. Finally, in order to delimit the concept of architectonicity as linked to a visual-graphic and non-verbal system, the theoretical and instrumental need for the graphic language TDE is proposed.
