Agua Hedionda: An Example of State Occupation and Control? (Department of San Antonio, Jujuy)

Agua hedionda ¿Un ejemplo de ocupación y control estatal? (Dto. San Antonio, Jujuy)

This paper presents the preliminary results of recently initiated research at the Inka site of Agua Hedionda. This settlement, located in the Department of San Antonio, may be an example of a state storage site, as suggested by the presence of numerous concentrated storage units, or qolqas, associated with other structures.
On the basis of its size and unique characteristics, the importance of this settlement is considered as an approach to understanding state economic policy in this peripheral region. The paper also discusses the possible interactions between Agua Hedionda and sites on the eastern frontier and in the Lerma Valley.

En este trabajo se presentan los resultados preliminares de las investigaciones iniciadas recientemente en el sitio incaico Agua Hedionda. Este asentamiento, ubicado en el Departamento de San Antonio, puede ser un ejemplo de sitio de almacenaje estatal, como lo revelan numerosas unidades de almacenamiento concentradas (qolqas), asociadas a otras estructuras. Por su extensión y características únicas, se plantea la importancia de este asentamiento como una aproximación al conocimiento de la política económica estatal en esta región periférica y se discuten las posibles interacciones entre Agua Hedionda con sitios de la frontera oriental y del Valle de Lerma.
