MÁSCARAS DE OCCIDENTE: LA PRODUCCIÓN CIENTÍFICA DE LA OTREDAD
WESTERN MASKS: A SCIENTIFIC PRODUCTION OF OTHERNESS
Surprisingly, the chané is one of the indigenous peoples whose knowledge for the history and the anthropology comes fundamentally from its subalternity condition regarding another indigenous people: the chiriguanos. The references to the chané so much in the historical sources as in the scientific texts, they locate them in a condition of servants or slaves - tapuy -, women’s and work givers for their masters. They enter in the western knowledge as a society history and culture casting, only recreated in the dynamics of the war and the cannibalism ava-Guarani, as the necessary tally of their social system. It gets the attention that have not taken into account the autonomous existence of communitieschané neither the process of recovery of their identity, like Metraux and Nordenskjold had insinuated. This omission is even more dramatic when the existence of a complex chiriguano-chané isconsecrated that ends up affirming the concealment of the one dominated and to accept the ruler’s point of view, be this chiriguano or white. What weight they have had the scientific ideologies, the theoretical traditions, the most numerous minorities in the construction of the Nation that the setting of a mask was consecrated to a culture that today still manifests its resistance, ignoring its voices?
