LAS VASIJAS INCA DE LA QUEBRADA DE HUMAHUACA: ANÁLISIS PRELIMINAR
INCA VESSELS FROM QUEBRADA DE HUMAHUACA: PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS

The Quebrada de Humahuaca was incorporated into the Inca state during the fi rst half of 15th century. Strategies as the incorporation of Inca ceramics coming from other regions of the empire, as well as the production of vessels showing local forms and motifs combined with those introduced by the Incas, were brought in as part of the domination developed by the Tawantinsuyu. In attention to the importance that the Inca state gave to ceramic technology in the process of provincial domination, this paper reports a sample of complete Inca vessels and sherds coming from different sites located at the Quebrada de Humahuaca. From the analysis of the shape and decoration, a preliminary classifi cation describing the variability between local and non local vessels is made; besides, the assessment of its distribution among the Quebrada de Humahuaca shows that the majority of ceramics are concentrated at Tilcara and Coctaca sites. It is proposed that this fact is linked to the Inca state policy at the region.
