Merleau-Ponty: The Body as Openness to the Theatrical World

Merleau-Ponty: el cuerpo como apertura al mundo teatral

The purpose of this paper is to show how artistic creation constitutes one of the ways in which human beings account for the perceived world. To this end, we will attempt to relate the analyses presented by Merleau-Ponty in the fields of painting and philosophy to the theatrical studies carried out by Jerzy Grotowski and Eugenio Barba concerning the technique and training of the actor within the world of theater. Both approaches are identified with the search for a primordial expression or experience that arises from the body as a form of openness to the world.

El propósito del presente trabajo es mostrar cómo la creación artística constituye una de las formas que el hombre posee para dar cuenta del mundo percibido. Intentaremos para esto relacionar los análisis expuestos por Merleau-Ponty en el campo de la pintura y la filosofía con los estudios teatrales realizados por Jerzy Grotowski y Eugenio Barba referentes a la técnica y al entrenamiento del actor dentro del mundo del teatro, identificándose ambos planteos con la búsqueda de una expresión o experiencia primigenia que se da a partir del cuerpo como forma de apertura al mundo.
