FAMILY VIOLENCE IN THE ORIGINS OF THE RIO THE RIO DE LA PLATA SOCIETY. BUENOS AIRES, 1785-1829

VIOLENCIA FAMILIAR EN LOS ORÍGENES DE LA SOCIEDAD RIOPLATENSE. BUENOS AIRES, 1785-1829

Family violence is a serious social problem in Argentina and raises many questions around its causes and, above all else, the means to solve it. This paper is part of a larger investigation that proposes the realization of a diagnosis of the situation of family violence in Argentine history. However, in this advance, special emphasis is placed on the violence exerted by the husbands towards their wives, based on a sample of judicial documents corresponding to the period 1785-1829. These documents are synthetically described, with the accompaniment of bibliography, to make some final reflections.

Laviolencia familiar es un problema social grave de la Argentina y genera múltiples interrogantes sobre sus causas y, por sobre todas las cosas, sobre los medios para resolverlo. Este trabajo se inscribe dentro de una investigación más amplia que se propone la realización de un diagnóstico de situación de la violencia familiar en la historia Argentina. No obstante, en este avance se pone especial énfasis en la violencia ejercida por los maridos hacia sus mujeres, sobre la base de una muestra de documentos judiciales correspondientes al período 1785-1829.
