PASADO Y PRESENTE EN LA QUEBRADA DE LA CUEVA, DEPARTAMENTO DE HUMAHUACA, PROVINCIA DE JUJUY. RESULTADOS ARQUEOLÓGICOANTROPOLÓGICOS DEL TRABAJO DE CAMPO

PAST AND PRESENT IN QUEBRADA DE LA CUEVA, HUMAHUACA DEPARTMENT, JUJUY PROVINCE, ARGENTINA. ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND ANTHROPOLOGICAL FIELD WORK RESULTS

Se trata de un proyecto regional e interdisciplinario donde consideramos que es indispensable contar con la participación de las comunidades locales para la puesta en valor del sector norte de la Quebrada de Humahuaca. El objetivo principal es el estudio de los asentamientos prehispánicos en la cuenca de la Quebrada de La Cueva y la relación de la localización de los asentamientos con las áreas de producción agrícola. Otro objetivo es la creación de un museo para compartir los resultados y comprender la forma de vida y espiritualidad de los antepasados que habitaron el área; y que sea un camino válido para la recuperación y reafi rmación de la Identidad Étnica de sus habitantes. Durante el trabajo realizado en 2006 continuamos con los estudios ambientales, considerando las características topográfi cas, climáticas y de vegetación, para lograr una visión del paisaje regional (usando fotografías aéreas y cartas topográfi cas, prospección sistemática e intensiva para identifi car otras áreas de asentamiento humano y superfi cies de cultivo aún no ubicadas). Realizamos una excavación estratigráfi ca y de control en el sitio El Antiguito y otra en el Pukara de la Cueva, para efectuar controles radiométricos que nos permitan indicar la posición cronológica de los materiales de superfi cie de los asentamientos ya detectados y conocidos. El análisis de los materiales recuperados se encuentra en proceso. Logramos un diálogo fl uido con las comunidades locales que dieron como resultado la reafi rmación de los convenios fi rmados con anterioridad.

This is a regional and interdisciplinary project where we consider that it is indispensable to count on the participation of the local communities for the recovery/preservation of the patrimonial value of the northern area of Quebrada de Humahuaca. The primary objective of this work is the study of pre-Hispanic settlements on the river basin of Quebrada de la Cueva and the relationship existing between the settlement location and the areas of agricultural production. Another objective is the creation of a museum to share the results and to understand the way of life and spirituality of the ancestors who inhabited the area, since we consider it is a valid way of recovering and reaffi rming the Ethnic Identity of the inhabitants. During the work carried out in 2006, we continued with the environmental studies, considering the topographic, climatic and vegetation characteristics in order to obtain an overview of the regional landscape (using aerial photographs and topographic maps, systematic and intensive prospection to identify other areas of human settlement and agricultural areas not yet located). A stratigraphic control excavation was performed at El Antiguito site and in Pukara de la Cueva, to carry out radiometric controls which allow us to indicate the chronological position of the surface materials of the already detected and known settlements. The analysis of the recovered materials is now in process. We had a fl uid dialogue with local communities, which resulted in the acknowledgement of previously signed agreements.
